Volleyball Roundup: Volleyball Mocs fall 3-0 to 11-1 Washington State

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga volleyball team completed nonconference play with a 3-0 loss Saturday to Washingston State in the Dr. Wynn Invitational at Missouri State. Set scores were 28-26, 25-20, 25-18.

All three of UTC's opponents in the tournament received votes in the latest coaches' poll. WSU is 11-1.

Ally Ford led the Mocs (7-7) with 17 kills and 17 digs, and Maddie Halsey had 31 assists while Megan Kaufman had 15 digs. Dani Szczepanski and Brianna Anderson each added eight kills.

-At Atlanta, Lee University beat NCAA Division III Top 10 teams Juniata 3-1 (18-25, 25-20, 25-23, 25-17) and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 3-0 (25-22, 25-13, 25-23) in Emory's tournament. That gave the Lady Flames six wins in a row, all away from home, after a season-opening loss.

Against Juniata (7-2), Silvia Sartori had 12 kills, six aces and 12 digs while Bailey Kress, Alex Reuter and Ellisia Kimble had nine, eight and seven kills, Sadie Johnson and Kristi Farley 18 and 16 assists and 10 and nine digs, MaKayla Beebe 21 digs and Brooke Wilsman 13 digs. Sartori had 15 kills and 12 digs against CMS, when Reuter had nine kills, Johnson 19 assists and 14 digs, Farley 16 assists and Beebe 25 digs.

-At Maryville, Tenn., Covenant College ended a three-match losing streak with 3-0 wins over Greensboro and William Peace. In the 25-10, 25-19, 25-20 defeat of Greensboro (5-2), the Lady Scots (5-6) got 11 kills and 10 digs from Jessica Seehorn, nine kills and 12 digs from Ginny Moore, 31 assists from Schuyler Moore and seven kills each from Hannah Harris and Allie Jakes.

Schuyler Moore had 27 assists and Ginny had 10 kills and 17 digs in the 25-23, 25-8, 25-14 defeat of Peace, while Hannah Stewart and Emily Moore had 12 and 10 digs.

-At Memphis, Sewanee opened Southern Athletic Association play with a 3-1 loss (25-23, 22-25, 25-19, 25-23) to Rhodes despite 22 kills and nine digs from Destiny Stewart, 35 digs from Peyton Parent and 24 and 20 assists by Constance Connolly and Anna Wilson. Wilson served four aces, Elizabeth Gill had 11 kills and Olivia Nichols had 18 digs for the Tigers (5-4).

-At Laurinburg, N.C., Tennessee Wesleyan lost 3-0 (25-15, 25-23, 25-16) to St. Andrews in an Appalachian Athletic Conference match. Marjorie Smith had 11 kills for TWU (4-9, 0-3), while Gabi Catt had 14 assists, Tia Madden had 13 assists and 13 digs and Kailyn Lillie and Elizabeth Houk had 13 and 10 digs.
