Bryan's Reinhardt wins AAC women's golf tournament

Although her team tied for 12th place, Krista Reinhardt of Bryan College was the individual winner in the Tennessee Wesleyan Spring Invitational golf tournament that doubled Monday and Tuesday as the AAC Championship at the Tennessee National course at Loudon. Reinhardt won by five strokes with a record 147 (75-72). Wesleyan was fourth with Ryann McCuistion fourth individually at 155 and Danielle Bates and Megan Schauer tied for 18th at 167.

» Dalton State's third-ranked men's golfers won their inaugural Roadrunner Classic at The Farm in Rocky Face by 17 strokes, and the No. 2-ranked DSC women lost in a playoff with No. 20 Faulkner at the Canebreak Club at Athens, Ala. The men's field included No. 1 Oklahoma City, which finished third behind No. 6 Keiser. DSC's S.M. Lee was the medalist by four strokes at 8 under par, and P.J. Shields joined him on the all-tournament team. Ben Rebne was 11th and Dalton Johnson also made the top 15. The Lady Roadrunners tied for first in the RedHawk Spring Classic despite medalist Tia Teiniketo playing as an individual. She won by five shots. Haejin Choe was fourth, Katie Dalton was eighth and Isabel Rijos and Hannah Gasaway tied for 11th.

» Mike Nance of Calhoun and Dalton Golf & Country Club tied for eighth at 153 in stroke-play qualifying for the 2018 GSGA Senior Match Play Championship and is in the 16-man field as matches begin this morning at the Savannah Golf Club. Nance opens against Mel Mendenhall from the Trophy Club of Atlanta, who qualified at 151.

Football

» UTC offensive linemen Alex Hooper and Branden Parker were named this week to the National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society. That includes players from all divisions with cumulative grade point averages of at least 3.2. Hooper, who graduated with honors in 2017 and was working on an M.B.A. last fall, was a three-time Academic All-Southern Conference honoree who played in 34 games. Parker, graduating next month, played in 24 games and twice was academic all-conference.

Baseball

» No. 1-ranked Faulkner won 8-5 with an eight-run eighth inning in its NAIA baseball game Wednesday at Tennessee Wesleyan. Tekwaan Whyte had a three-run home run in that outburst for Faulkner (38-3). Jack Granath pitched 6 1/3 innings for TWU (24-18) and allowed four hits and no runs. In defeat, Braden Mosley was 2-for-4 with two runs batted in and Aloysius Cruz, Collin Ridout and Dakota Phillips each had two hits and scored a run, Ridout with an RBI.

» Covenant College senior Joel Johnson and sophomore CJ Edmond received All-USA South baseball honorable mention for the 2018 season, and senior Taylor Bloye represented the Scots on the all-sportsmanship team. Johnson is batting .317 with four home runs and a team-high 29 RBIs, and Edmond is hitting .309 with three homers, 21 RBIs and 19 runs scored in 30 games.

Softball

» Lee University won 5-3 after losing 5-2 in a nonconference softball doubleheader Wednesday at Trevecca Nazarene. In the win for the Lady Flames (21-24), Taylor Moran was 3-for-4 and Kayla Gooch was 2-for-4, each driving in two runs, and Lily Hatcher was 2-for-3 and scored two. Leigh Beatenbough (11-8) pitched a seven-hitter with two earned runs. Gooch was 2-for-4 also in the loss.

Lacrosse

» Alanna Carvalho and Abbey O'Brien scored six and five goals and Nicole Federovitch had six assists with four goals as Alabama-Huntsville (10-3, 4-1) defeated host Lee 20-12 in Gulf South Conference women's lacrosse Wednesday. Kaylyn Dillon netted four goals and Emma Hill had two goals and two assists for Lee (8-8, 2-5).

Tennis

» Lee's Bruno Medeiros was the GSC men's tennis freshman of the week for his two straight-sets singles wins and his 2-0 record also in doubles with Jordan Knott last week.
