Tennessee Wesleyan junior softball second baseman Baylee Sutton from North Murray High School was co-player of the year in the Appalachian Athletic Conference with Reinhardt senior Jessica Baker, and Truett McConnell junior outfielder Brie Levy from East Hamilton and Chattanooga State was another All-AAC first-team selection. The second team included TWU seniors Courtney Black and Rachel Mathews, Bryan junior Hannah O'Shields and Brenau senior Kelsey Payne from East Hamilton. Sutton has a batting average of .449 with 23 extra-base hits and 38 RBIs in 40 games, and Black has hit .466 with 23 extra-base hits and 52 RBIs while Mathews has an 18-4 pitching record with a 2.03 earned run average. O'Shields, Bryan's catcher from LaFayette, hit .365 with six homers, two triples, 12 doubles and 37 RBIs.

Tennis

» Borja Perez and Federico Staksrud of Tennessee Wesleyan were on the 10-player All-AAC men's tennis team announced Tuesday, and the Bulldogs' Fabrizio Tormen made the all-freshman team. TWU shared the regular-season championship and was the AAC tournament runner-up.

Lacrosse

» Sewanee's Thomas Lynde and Hayden Hunt made the All-Southern Athletic Association men's lacrosse first team, while Will Pratt, Grant Gilmore and Ryan Stubits were second-team choices and Tigers freshman Jake Vaughn was the newcomer of the year. Ian Marr and Cal Pearce received All-SAA honorable mention. Vaughn was honored for his 22 goals and eight assists in his first Sewanee season, while Hunt compiled 38 goals and 10 assists, Lynde 21 goals, 14 assists and 24 ground balls and Pratt 20 goals and nine assists. Stubits had 106 ground balls and won 196 of 291 face-offs. Gilmore had 29 ground balls and eight forced turnovers.

Baseball

» Bryan College lost 18-8 Tuesday at No. 2 Georgia Gwinnett in NAIA baseball, leaving the 10th-ranked Lions 36-12. Bryan's Wade Weinburger followed his selection as AAC player of the week with a similar honor from the Tennessee Sports Writers Association. In four wins he was 8-for-15 with three home runs, a triple, five walks, 10 RBIs and nine runs scored. Tuesday he was 2-for-5 with another homer, his 20th, and matched David Scoggins with two RBIs. Fernando Garcia was 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Trevor Behrent scored twice.

» Tennessee Wesleyan's home games Tuesday and today against Hiwassee and Talladega were called off.

Track & Field

» Lee University's Audrey Smith and Brooks twins swept the overall and track top-performer awards at the Gulf South Conference track and field meet last weekend at Clinton, Miss., where Lee won the women's team title for the second year in a row and was third in the men's standings. Smith set meet records of 35:46.68 in the 10,000-meter run, 10:57.48 in the 3000 steeplechase and 17:46.98 in the 5000, and teammate Emily Buwalda won the 1500 and 800, the former in a meet record of 4:41.18. Lee's Camilla Sims won the shot put with a meet record of 13.11 meters and was second in hammer throw and discus, Kendra Irvine and Kaitlyn Kincer were second and third in the pole vault, Jordan Allison was third in the 400 hurdles, Charlee Boxall was third in the steeple and the 1500 and Becca Umbarger was third in the 5k. Josiah Brooks was the men's most outstanding overall performer after finishing first in the 100, second in the triple jump and third in the 200, and Justin Brooks was the most outstanding track guy after winning the 400 in a meet-record 47.07 seconds and finishing second in the 200. The Flames also got victories from Thomas Kelton in the 3000 steeplechase, Caleb Eagleson in the 10k and Evan Hansen in the high jump and were second in the 4x400 relay and third in the 4x100.

» Led by 22 3/4 points from senior Nayeli Jacobo, Dalton State's seven-runner team finished fourth in the Southern States Athletic Conference women's meet in Mobile, Ala. Jacobo won the 800- and 1500-meter runs and anchored 4x800 and 4x400 relay teams that set school records, and Noor Sabeeh also was in those relays, won the 3000 steeplechase in school-record time and was the 5000 runner-up. DSC's Kay Vradenburgh won the 10k and was third in the 1500, and Sarah Sullivan was second in the steeplechase, sixth with a school record in the 400 hurdles and a member of the two record relays. Ana Karen Padilla was third in the 10k and fourth in the 5k, Hayley Hight third in the 5k and Morgan King fourth in the 10k.

Boxing

» The Red Bank Boxing Club will host its final set of bouts for the 2017-18 season Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Henry Luken Sports Facility behind Red Bank High School. There will be fighters from Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama and Kentucky, and 30 bouts were scheduled as of Tuesday. Admission costs $7 for adults, $3 for students and nothing for ages 12-under.
