Tennessee Wesleyan first in AAC women's track, second in men's

Tennessee Wesleyan won the women's championship and was the men's runner-up at the Appalachian Athletic Conference outdoor track and field meet this past weekend at Black Mountain, N.C.

Led by sprinter Alexandria Johnson and thrower Rachel Lawhorn, the Lady Bulldogs totaled 173 points to 153.5 for second-place Columbia (S.C.) College. The Wesleyan men had 123.5 points; Reinhardt won with 161.5.

Lawhorn won the women's discus throw with a meet record of 41.97 meters and the shot put and was second in javelin throw and fourth in hammer throw. Johnson won the 100- and 200-meter dashes and was on the winning 4x100 and 4x400 relays with Tranico Parson and Els Hooijdonk, plus Alexis Lankford in the 4x100 and Keupper Feehan in the 4x400.

TWU also won the women's 4x800 with Hannah Rhodes, Karlie Yinger, Rose Cisneros and Feehan.

Rachel Gallison was second in the 3000 steeplechase and fourth in the 1500 and the 5000 (where Bryan's Isabella Dawson was seventh), and Gracie Smith tied for second with Ally McNulty fifth in high jump. McNulty was sixth and Smith seventh in the 100 hurdles.

Hooijdonk was third in the triple jump, and she and Lankford were third and fourth in the 100 and sixth and fifth in the 200. Parson was fourth in the 400 and Rhodes, Feehan and Hailey Polillo were third, sixth and eighth in the 1500.

Feehan, Rhodes and Cisneros were third, fifth and seventh in the 800, and Brianna Williams was fifth in triple jump and eighth in long jump.

For the TWU men, Dillan Elkins (47.23) and Devonte Fletcher (47.29) broke the old meet record in finishing first and second in the 400, and they were one-two also in the 200. Elkins was third in the 400 hurdles, and he and Fletcher were on the winning 4x400 relay with Kenny Benton and John Gould, and Benton, Cadarius Harris, Josh Parson and Fletcher won the 4x100.

Parson was first, Harris third and Keven Mitchell seventh in the 100 dash, and Nic Palmer, Chaz Hawkins and Jon Literski were second, third and sixth in the 110 hurdles. Gould was second with Antonio Alejos eighth in the 800, and Gould was fifth in the 1500.

Isaiah Woodruff was second, Joshua Molands fifth and Neville Smith seventh in triple jump. Molands was fourth in long jump, Djimon Wilson tied for sixth in high jump and Brandon Massey was seventh in the 400.

Bryan finished eighth in the men's standings with James Eliezer fourth in the 400 and fifth in the 100 and 200 and Brady Smith fifth in the 10,000. Eliezer, Jordan Bates, Dustin Reynolds and Michael Briggs were the sixth-place 4x400.

Scots' Smith shines

Covenant's Lilly Smith won the women's 1500- and 5000-meter runs and finished second in the 800 at the Atlantic Independent Championships at Berea, Ky. Her 2:24.24 in the 800 and her 4:49.55 in the 1500 reset her own Lady Scots records.

Hannah Hennigh set program records in the 100 and 200 and joined Virginia Kay Roberts, Gracie Holbrook and Abigail Wallace for a third-place 4x100. Hennigh, Smith, Roberts and Wallace were fourth in the 4x400, and Hannah Samuels was third in the 10k and sixth with Covenant teammate Michelann Settle fifth in the 5000.

For the Covenant men, Michael Rawlings handily won the javelin throw, Ari Zorns was sixth in the 100 and Tristan Dunlavy, Leif Le Mahieu, William Wallace and William Bryan were fourth in the 4x400.

UTC's Taylor Grayson finished eighth in the women's shot put in the Tri Star Classic at Johnson City, Tenn.
