-Sewanee's softball games today at Demorest, Ga., and Sunday at home were called off because of wet fields and imminent rain, but the Tigers got to begin their season Friday at Agnes Scott and lost 7-4 and 5-4, the latter after taking a 4-1 lead. Taylor Wagner was 2-for-4 with an RBI and Jackie O'Reilly was 1-for-2 with a double, two walks and two runs scored in game one for Sewanee. Running

-Central High School senior Alberto Dominguez is getting a running start - literally - on his hope of becoming a pediatrician. He signed scholarship papers Friday to join the cross country team at Cleveland State. "It's just a start, but I'll be in their pre-health transfer pathway," said Dominguez, who has competed in the TSSAA state meet the last three seasons and helped Central win the region in 2016. "I want to thank my parents, my coaches and my savior Jesus Christ. Without him none of this is possible." Dominguez has run cross country since elementary school. "He's a hard worker, and he's an excellent student and a good guy," Central coach Jan Munson said. "He's going to be able to go to school and have it paid for and run, and then he'll have a chance to go to a four-year school. This is a good fit for him right now. He's got a lot more potential in him for running." CSCC coach David Kyle echoed Munson and added, "He's going to be a valuable asset for our team."

Tennis

-The Covenant women's tennis team improved to 2-1 for the season Friday with a 7-2 victory over Belhaven in McCallie School's indoor center. The Lady Scots won two of the top three doubles matches and Nos. 1-5 singles with Aly Hall, Annie DeLuca, Esther Eddy, Jenniie Spielman and Morgan McCain. Hall won 6-3, 5-7, 1-0 (10-6), the others all in straight sets with one 6-0 score each.

Basketball

-Taylor Bethune's 11 points led the Georgia Northwestern scoring in a 64-24 women's basketball loss Friday at Welch College in Gallatin, Tenn. Madison Lewis had seven rebounds for the Lady Bobcats (10-8). The score was 33-9 at halftime.
