UT softball team adds four wins in five games

The 10th-ranked Tennessee softball team won its third game against a ranked opponent this season by defeating No. 15 Oklahoma State during the Michele Smith Invitational this past weekend in Clearwater, Fla.

Tennessee improved to 10-1 with four wins in five games during the three-day event that finished Sunday, highlighted by the 5-1 win over Oklahoma State on Friday.

The Lady Vols also beat Massachusetts-Lowell 4-1 that day and lost 3-2 to Florida Atlantic on Saturday before beating South Florida 7-4 on Saturday and Marshall 5-4 on Sunday.

Senior shortstop Meghan Gregg, one of three finalists for USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year in 2017, went 11-for-16 with seven RBIs during the five games. Through the first two weeks of the season, Gregg is hitting a team-best .559.

Caylan Arnold picked up two victories in relief, tossing 5 2/3 innings without allowing a hit against UMass-Lowell. The sophomore right-hander turned in a similar performance with 5 1/3 scoreless innings against Marshall.

Tennessee's next game is against Brigham Young University in Cathedral City, Calif., its first of six in the Mary Nutter Classic.
