With Tennessee athletic director Phillip Fulmer and fellow former Volunteers football coach Bill Battle included in the Classic 150's dinner to roast and toast Chattanooga businessman John "Thunder" Thornton, tickets figure to go fast for the Feb. 20 fundraiser at the Chattanooga Convention Center. Individual tickets are $125 with tables for eight going from $800 to $10,000 for title sponsors. Reservations can be made by calling Derryberry Public Relations at 423-755-7588.

Tennis

-The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's tennis team defeated Lipscomb 4-2 on Saturday at McCallie School's indoor center. Lipscomb brought only five players and lost the doubles point by forfeit when UTC's Samantha Caswell and Emma Van Hee won 6-3 at No. 1. Van Hee's forfeit win at No. 6 singles combined with wins by Caroline Hall and Tamri Chalaganidze at Nos. 3 and 5 to seal the victory for the Mocs (2-0).

Basketball

-Former UTC player Chelsey Shumpert scored 33 points as the Union University women's basketball team ended Lee's eight-game winning streak with a 66-59 Gulf South Conference victory in Jackson, Tenn. Union (20-1, 13-0) is ranked 12th in the NCAA Division II coaches' poll and fourth in the D2SIDA media poll, where Lee (17-4, 10-3) is 23rd. Shumpert made 11 of 14 free throws and Jada Perkins hit seven of eight in scoring 16 points with seven steals and six assists for Union. Carrie Cheeks had 17 points on 8-of-11 shooting and 11 rebounds for Lee, which got 11 points from Lindsey Roddy and five assists from Abby Bertram. Lee won the men's game 60-51 with 16 points and seven rebounds from Chase Cullen and 14 points on 4-of-6 3 success from Cody Jones.

-Karli Combs with five 3-point baskets and 19 points led five double-figure scorers for first-place Bryan College in an 84-65 Appalachian Athletic Conference women's basketball win Saturday at St. Andrews. Tristan McClellan and Deandra Luna contributed 17 and 15 points with three 3s apiece and five and seven assists for the Lady Lions (17-5, 14-2), while Sarah Cain also hit three 3s and scored 12 points and Tonesha Allison had 10 points and eight rebounds. Bryan also won the men's game, 70-62, as E.J. Bush had 18 points and 11 rebounds. Isaiah McClain added 12 points, Clay Hertel 10 points and seven rebounds and Brice Cusick 13 rebounds for the Lions (13-9, 7-6).

-James Mitchell scored 24 points on 8-of-13 3-point shooting and added five steals as Covenant College won 90-75 in USA South men's play Saturday at Huntingdon. Also for the Scots (9-8, 4-5), Berto Dryden and Caleb Haynes scored 15 and 14 points and Bailey Spragg had 11 plus 10 assists.

-Dalton State, ranked 13th in NAIA Division I, improved to 17-4, 10-1 in the Southern States Athletic Conference, with a 92-66 home rout of Martin Methodist. Carnilious Simmons had 23 points and 10 rebounds for the Roadrunners, who got 16 points with four 3s from Reed Dungan and 14 from Aaron Burress. Mon'Darius Black and Isaiah Box each had 12 points and six assists, Black with eight rebounds and five steals.

-Tori Harvey had 19 points and 19 rebounds and Taylor Bethune and Christina DeSalvo scored 14 and 12 points in Georgia Northwestern's 63-27 home victory over winless Toccoa Falls, but the GNTC men los 87-70 to Oxford College despite Tyler Phillips' 29 points on 7-of-10 3-point shooting. Jay Wideman added 15 points and 10 rebounds for the Bobcats (3-14), and J.T. Langford scored 11 points. The Lady Bobcats are 9-5.

-UTC men's assistant basketball coach Walter Offutt will be the guest speaker for the Chattanooga Quarterback's noon luncheon meeting Monday - at Southside Social for the last time before returning to nearby Finley Stadium on Feb. 5. As always, the public is invited. Attendance costs $12 with a meal, $4 without.

Fishing

-Michael Neal of Dayton, Tenn., moved up to 13th Saturday but missed the cut of 10 finalists in the FLW Tour bass tournament on Lake Okeechobee in Florida. Neal earned $12,000 for his three-day total of 48 pounds, 4 ounces. Tim Frederick of Leesburg, Fla., moved into first at 65-6.

-Bryan College anglers Thad Simerly and Ethan Shaw were left with a 22nd-place finish as heavy fog caused the cancellation of the final day of the Carhartt Bassmaster College Series Central Tour event on Toledo Bend Reservoir. Like the rest of the top 30 who were scheduled to fish Saturday, they received berths in the College Series National Championship.
