KNOXVILLE - The Tennessee-Memphis basketball rivalry is set to be renewed starting in the 2018-19 season.

Memphis coach Penny Hardaway confirmed to 92.9 FM in Memphis on Monday morning that the teams will play next season.

Dates for the game have not been announced, but the plan is for Tennessee to play at Memphis in the upcoming season. Memphis would play at Tennessee in the 2019-20 season and the teams would meet in Nashville the following year.

Barnes said the reasoning behind playing in Nashville would be to promote basketball within the state.

"That's the reason we're going there that third year," Barnes said. "I would imagine if it goes the way we want it to, it won't just be us playing that day when we go to Nashville. It'll be, again, like some kind of jamboree or extravaganza - something that will really promote basketball in the state of Tennessee."

The teams last played in the 2012-13 season.
