A 1-over-par 217 for 54 holes was enough for Chris Stutts to win the annual John T. Lupton Memorial golf tournament this past weekend at The Honors Course. Stutts, a Tennessee native and recent Hawaii resident who began his collegiate career at East Tennessee State, became an All-American at Arizona State and tried pro golf for awhile, won the mid-amateur division with his two 72s and Sunday's 73. David Noll Jr. of Dalton and Andy Roberts tied for second at 219, and Andrew Lawson and Rob Garland were fourth and fifth at 220 and 221. Rick Cloninger of South Carolina won the senior division by five Stableford points, and Marietta's Bill Leonard won the Lupton super senior title in a playoff with Alan Thielemann of Woodstock, Georgia.

Baseball

» Sophomore third baseman Cade Gilbert from Ringgold High School was the East Tennessee State player selected to the Southern Conference baseball all-tournament team after the event won Sunday by Samford in Greenville, South Carolina. Gilbert batted 6-for-12 in the Buccaneers' three games, with a home run, a double and seven runs batted in. Defensively he had four putouts, 10 assists and no errors, and he made the game-ending relay throw home to preserve the Bucs' win over Furman.
