Mocs report

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga used a solid defensive performance Tuesday to hold off Division II program Lee University 61-55. The Mocs were solid on the offensive end of the court with 14 assists on 21 made field goals, and they built a 14-point lead in the second half before Lee used a 10-0 run late to make it close. The Mocs didn't shoot the ball well from 3-point range (18 percent), but they made up for that by hitting 56 percent of their shots inside the arc and outscored Lee 36-20 in points in the paint.

Cardinals report

Last season's NCAA tournament runners-up should be right back in the hunt this season. They are led by Durr, a first-team All-American last season, and expect good production from Diop, a graduate transfer from Pittsburgh who finished her Panthers career as the program's 18th-leading scorer of all time. Louisville won 102-80 at Western Kentucky to open the season.

Key matchup

The opponents in UTC's first two games are about as far apart on the spectrum as possible, but the Mocs are willing to take on challenges from teams such as the Cardinals in hopes of being the best version of themselves at tournament time in March. Although first-year UTC head coach Katie Burrows and her players will be working for a win tonight, it's more likely Burrows will use this game as a measuring stick regarding how her team should play, and as long as they play well, she can live with the results.
