Soccer

* Baylor School senior Mya McGee is set to continue her soccer career at the University of North Alabama, which has moved up to NCAA Division I, and Baylor held a ceremony Tuesday evening to celebrate her scholarship. The two-time all-state midfielder said she previously had interest in Kennesaw State and Columbus State as well as Lee University and attended an "I.D." camp at Tennessee but had focused on UNA going into this school year. The Lions' head coach is former Lee player and women's assistant coach Chris Walker, whom she has known since attending a Lee camp as an eighth-grader. "My relationship with the coach and the town of Florence - it's kind of like Chattanooga - and the fact it's not too far from home were factors in my decision," McGee said. "I always had the idea of playing Division I soccer, but that wasn't a really big deal in the end. But, yes, I'm excited to play Division I soccer." Baylor coach Curtis Blair said that "we're losing a really good part of our program, and Chris Walker is getting a really good soccer player. We saw this year how mentally tough she is. She played with a stress fracture/shin splints, and she basically wore a boot until taking it off for games." McGee had nine goals and five assists as a senior.
