5-at-10: Game 7 fun, College football poll that matters, Butch speaks

Now we're here and the flow gets flowing and style becomes stylish, and, as H.I. McDunnough said, "This here's the TV. Two hours a day, maximum, either... either educational or football, so's, y'know, you don't ruin your appreciation of the finer things."

From the "Talks too much" studios, don't forget the tattoo Ed.

Royals get interesting

And then that happened.

Kansas City forced a Game 7 in the World Series with a 10-0 win over San Francisco on Tuesday.

Yes, the offense delivered with a series of bloops and grounders with eyes in a seven-run second inning.

But rookie right-hander Yordano Ventura was brilliant, allowing three hits over seven innings. Dude was money, and it was fun to watch.

Now we get a Game 7, which we'll discuss more in the spaces below, but aren't all of us in this part of country rooting for former Braves starter Tim Hudson to shine tonight.

Good times, and actually a baseball game we're excited for. Go figure.

Who you got Wednesday

We have been listing our top four college football playoff teams each Wednesday for a while.

Today, we'll do the same, but we must include the one poll that ultimately will count (no not the North Pole or even Lech Walesa, and those are some important poles) in the college football playoff committee poll.

Here's who we have as the four teams poised to be better than everyone else right now:

1. Mississippi State

2. Florida State

3. Alabama

4. Auburn

Yes, this will change mightily since No. 1 plays 3 and 3 plays 4 between now and the end of the season.

And, while we are certain we read and heard over the summer that the committee was going to take at least three conference champions, the first poll from the committee makes it obvious to the contrary.

Here's the committee's poll:

1. MSU

2. FSU

3. Auburn

4. Ole Miss

Committee chair Jeff Long said the group knows change is coming, starting this weekend when Auburn goes to Ole Miss in what is an elimination game for the loser.

Long also said he will emphasize a "clean slate" when the committee meets next week, which is a little vague and makes you wonder if the group will be knee-jerk in their reactions.

It also makes it clear that teams ranked 5-through-10 will start politicking now, and it will be interesting to see if those teams lay some extra wood to folks this weekend.

Another clear statement is that the committee respects and gives extra credence to wins from the crowded one-loss bunch. Auburn has arguably the most impressive win of that group with a road victory over Kansas State, which was No. 9 in the committee's view. Ole Miss beat Alabama, which checks in at No. 6 on the committee's poll, and No. 5 Oregon beat No. 8 Michigan State.

So, whatcha' think? (And we feel this may come up on Press Row)

photo Head coach Butch Jones encourages his Vols before the game in this Oct. 25, 2014, photo.

Butch dismisses Michigan talk

This is completely and totally the only response for UT leader of Johnny Vols Fans everywhere, but Butch Jones said the news about his name being linked to the Michigan job was not even worth discussing. Here's TFP UT beat ace Downtown Patrick Brown's report on the issue.

That is the only answer even if in some alternate universe he had already taken it, considering he offered the classic non-denial denial. We know Jomo is stretch his fingers to type this, so we thought we'd head this off at the pass.

Of course, that's the only answer.

Still, while we believe Jones has made several proper steps in the Vols' reconstruction, we don't see how Michigan AD Dave Brandon could pitch Jones as a the home run hire he and the Wolverines desperately need.

Discuss.

This and that

- OK, Halloween is on the horizon. Got your costume yet? We are planning on making a brief appearance as Olaf the Snowman who loves warm hugs from "Frozen" (the Lil Miss 5-at-10 is Queen Elsa from the picture show, which the Lil 5-at-10 Jr. hates... so it goes). The Lil' 5-at-10 is going as Donatello from the TMNT - we know that makes you smile JMC. Here's the frontrunner for the costume that 'friend' will bring his date in. Yes, it's the sexy Ebola nurse outfit. Nothing says global pandemic until you have a sexy Halloween costume to celebrate.

- On the other end of the costume spectrum is Josh Sundquist's latest endeavor. The one-legged Paralympian who has dressed as the Gingerbread man from "Shrek" the famous leg lamp from "A Christmas Story" and a flamingo is going this year as a Foosball player. Excellently played indeed.

- NBA started last night and it was fun. In fact, we and Stewwie are actually about to get off on the proper NBA foot and agree on something. We loved, Loved, LOVED Kobe Bryant's response to the heated exchanged he had with Dwight Howard that included Howard swinging an elbow at the Lakers great.

photo Kobe Bryant

Bryant said after the Rockets' 108-90 win over a Lakers team that will assuredly struggle: "It's fantastic. That's the game. That's all part of the game. Elbows are a part of the game. Trash-talking is part of the game. I don't know where the NBA became so sensitive. It's all part of it." Good for you Kobe, who also said after the game: "You can't help but like him. He's a teddy bear. You can't help but like him. I really meant that. He's a really nice kid. But you know, when you're competing, you have a goal in mind. I know one way to get there. There's certain times when we didn't see eye to eye, but that wasn't one of those situations." That last quote is especially snide since Kobe got Howard fired up by calling him "soft" the entire game.

- And now to tip the visor to Chas9, sweet buckets of triple-double dominance, Anthony Davis opened his march into the pantheon of today's players in style. Davis went 26 points, 17 boards and nine blocks Tuesday night. Unibrows for everyone.

Today's question

In honor of Game 7 tonight, what's our Rushmore of best Game 7s?
