RINGGOLD, Ga. - Ben Rebne crushed his drive right down the line of artificial turf at the back end of the driving range at WindStone Golf Club.

But he didn't crush a golf ball.

He used a TaylorMade driver to beat a marshmallow about 40 yards during a "Big Break" style of competition after the first round of the Ringgold Telephone Company Junior Classic.

He finished runner-up in that entertaining competition. But Harrison Corbin of Inman, S.C., leads the real tournament after shooting a 4-under-par 67 on Tuesday.

Corbin leads by one over Jeffery Cunningham, Andy Ogletree, Crimson Callahan, Liam Warner and Jacob Eklund. Rebne is 12 shots off the lead but declared, in the joking fashion of a rising sophomore, that he'll shoot 59 today and take the lead.

"I'm going off to practice my putting," said Rebne, who is playing in the tournament for a second straight year. "My drives weren't straight and my putts weren't falling as good as last year."

Kaho Monica Matsubara leads the girls' competition by four strokes after shooting a 3-under 68. Katherine Holmes leads the Chattanooga contingent of girls at 76 with Bethany Burns shooting an 82.

Reese Scoby leads the four Chattanooga-area boys at 74. He scored an eagle on No. 15 and added five birdies. Tucker Venable shot 75, Rebne shot 79 and Nic Vandeventer shot 84.

"It's great competition and it's bigger with more competition and better players than other events," Scoby said. "I'm playing against kids from all over the world. I'm very fortunate."

He's better off than a bag of marshmallows.
