The ladies are on the tee.

It's time for them to determine the best golfer in the city.

The men concluded their championship on Sunday with Matt Roberston earning the Chattanooga Men's Metro championship trophy.

The Chattanooga Women's City championship begins today at Council Fire Golf Club.

It's their time to shine.

"This is the biggest women's golf tournament in the city," tournament committee member Carlene Ryon said. "It's not the biggest in numbers, but its is in prestige.

"It's the best of who we have."

The tournament field -- before a few withdrew for various reasons -- included 38 competitors in the open division and 15 in the senior division.

They will all play a stroke-play round today and then be paired-up for match-play. The champion will be determined on Thursday morning in a head-to-head match like many USGA events including its amateur championships.

"We have some young players this year which is wonderful," said tournament chairman Kandy Berke. "And we have a senior division. It should be good."

Defending champion Emily Javadi will not be participating this year. She is a medical-student intern in Memphis.

But her younger sister, Natalie, will be playing and could keep the trophy within their family home.

"Natalie, her winning would be very cool, said A.J. Javadi, father of Natalie and Emily. "But we'll see how things go."
