Chattanooga region golfers Adam Mitchell, Jonathan Hodge fall short of U.S. Open

Neither of the two golfers with close ties to the Chattanooga area who competed in U.S. Open sectional qualifiers Monday reached their goal of playing for America's championship.

Former McCallie and University of Georgia golfer Adam Mitchell shot a 7-over-oar 151 in his tournament at the Settindown Creek Course in Roswell, Ga.

Jonathan Hodge, who earned All-America status while playing at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, shot a 3-over 146 at Colonial Country Club near Memphis and missed a potential playoff by six strokes.

Former Georgia golfer Hudson Swafford earned medalist honors at Colonial with a total of 10-under 133. Other U.S. Open qualifiers from there include Joe Ogilvie, David Toms, Jeff Maggert, Casey Wittenberg of Memphis, former Middle Tennessee State golfer Jason Millard and Scott Langley, who won the 2010 NCAA individual championship at The Honors Course.
