Golf Notes: Burgin, Webb chasing Personett in Tennessee PGA

Loren Personett of Mount Juliet shot a 4-under-par 68 at the Vanderbilt Legends Club North Course on Tuesday and leads the 47th annual Tennessee PGA Professional tournament. With a two-day total of 10-under 134, he's two ahead of Bear Trace at Cumberland Mountain head pro Kelvin Burgin.

The Honors Course assistant pro Josh Webb is tied for third at 139, while Council Fire head pro Richard Rebne is at even-par 144 and tied for ninth. The Honors director of golf Henrik Simonsen is tied for 12th at 145, and Chattanooga Golf and Country club pro Bruce Etter is tied for 21st at 146.

Senior Am ahead

The Tennessee Senior Amateur Championship is slated to begin next Wednesday at Lookout Mountain Golf Club. The field includes defending champion Danny Green of Jackson as well as local competitors Richard Keene, Pat Corey, Randy Yoder, Tom Baird, Mike Jenkins, Gary Chazen, David McKenna and Neil Spitalny.

Area aces

Clint Wolford knocked in a 217-yard hole-in-one during Black Creek Club's member-guest tournament on Aug. 2. He aced No. 7 with a 3 hybrid club, as witnessed by Bryan Fryar, Rich Spangler and Jamie Dolyle.

Zach Madewell scored a hole-in-one and a double-eagle on the par-4 No. 3 at Dayton Golf and Country Club on Aug. 4. He made the shot from 315 yards while playing with Keith Bedillion, Greg Hyatte and Larry Hinch.

Jim Srite made a hole-in-one during the final round of the Brainerd Invitational on Sunday. He aced No. 14 from 124 yards with a gap wedge while playing alongside Mike Jenkins and Jerry Burrell. It's the second ace of his life, the first coming at Sweetens Cove in early July.

Eighty-year-old Pier Morgan sank his 13th hole-in-one recently at Valleybrook. He aced No. 5 with a 7 iron with Bob Stimson and Steven Ballew as witnesses.
