Golf notes: CDGA Junior Tour starting June 8

The Chattanooga District Golf Association Junior Tour will begin its season on June 8 at Moccasin Bend. The tournament there is open to boys and girls ages 12-18, and the entry fee is $20.

Future CDGA Junior Tour events include the William Bryan Memorial at Lookout Mountain on June 29-30, the CDGA at WindStone on July 13, the Danny Tribble Junior at Creeks Bend on July 20, and the City Junior Championship at Chattanooga Golf and Country Club on July 27-28.

Qualifiers -- based on a points system for all events -- will be invited to the Junior Classic at The Honors Course on a date to be determined in August.

Bobcats third in nationals

Six weeks after its regional triumph, Georgia Northwestern Technical College opened play Tuesday in the NJCAA Division III men's national tournament at Chautauqua (N.Y.) Golf Club with a third-place round of 308. The Bobcats' Jordan Estes is tied for fourth individually at 1-over-par 73, Chase Cole also is in the top 10 at 75, Grant Allen carded a 79 and Lanier Guest contributed an 81 to the team score.

Defending champion Sandhills Community College leads with a 294, and Cincinnati State is second out of 13 teams at 300.

Area aces

George Gannaway scored a hole-in-one on May 11 at Black Creek Club and won a new car while playing in the Metropolitan Ministries tournament. Gannaway aced No. 17 from 155 yards with a 6 iron with Bill Haisten, Jerry Jenkins and Ray Soileau as witnesses. Gannaway said his wife, Ginny, claimed co-ownership because she recently gave him a new set of clubs.

Delbert McBrien holed out a 90-yard tee shot with a sand wedge on No. 4 at Creeks Bend on May 18. Bill Shealy and Joe Mefford were witnesses for McBrien's fourth hole-in-one.

Howard Smith used a 9-iron to make his third hole-in-one, which happened May 18 on the 135-yard No. 4 hole at Creeks Bend. Wes Payne witnessed the shot.

Don Potter has 16 holes-in-one after acing hole No. 6 Friday at Brainerd. He used an 8 iron for the 149-yard shot witnessed by Mike Brown, Dale Sims and Jackie Parrott.

Jessa Miller scored her first hole-in-one on May 30 at Cleveland Country Club. She aced No. 17 from 120 yards while using a 5-wood, and Don Fahey was her witness.
