Golf notes: Moccasin Bend starts new Four-Ball

The inaugural Moccasin Bend Four-Ball Championship will be contested this weekend as a reincarnation of a previous four-ball event there. Applications are due today; they are available at www.IfYouLikeGolf.com and in the pro shop. The entry fee is $125 per person and covers range balls, cart fees and green fees.

Callaway Golf will be on site Saturday with a demo day, and each participant will receive a $50 Callaway gift card to be used online.

"I'm excited because it's a tournament that a lot of people wanted," head professional Devere Keller said. "We're doing it a little bit different than the four-ball we used to have here."

Metro nearing

The Chattanooga Men's Metro will be held July 10-12 at Canyon Ridge - the first time there. Applications are available at www.IfYouLikeGolf.com. It is open to amateur golfers from dues-paying CDGA clubs who live within 30 miles of a CDGA club. The entry deadline is July 6 and the fee is $130 including a cart or $90 without; a practice round is included.

Area aces

Rudy Bottke made a hole-in-one on June 3 at Moccasin Bend Golf Club. It covered 145 yards on No. 14, and he used a 6 iron while playing with John McDaniel, Ron Copeland and Walt Melton.

Monday on that same Moccasin Bend hole, No. 14, and also with a 6 iron, Terry Proctor knocked in his fourth hole-in-one. It was playing at 146 yards that day, and Jerry Johnson and Rick VanBrunt were witnesses.

Georgia McCravey scored the third hole-in-one of her life Sunday during a practice round for the Tennessee Women's Amateur at Chattanooga Golf and Country Club. She aced No. 13 from 118 yards with an 8 iron with Lynda Wimberly as her witness. McCravey said her first ace came on the same hole.
