Golf Notes: Emily Javadi again in nationals

Former Baylor School golfer Emily Javadi has earned a third consecutive invitation to participate in the NCAA Division III women's national tournament.

Javadi, who plays for Sewanee, was the third-ranked individual chosen for a field of six individuals and 21 teams. She has been named to the All-Southern Athletic Association first team in each of her three seasons and was a first-team All-American and NCAA freshman of the year in 2013.

The national tournament will be held May 12-15 at El Campeon Golf Course at Howey-in-the Hills, Fla., where Javadi finished sixth in the 2014 nationals.

USGA almost sets record

The United States Golf Association accepted 9,882 entries for the 2015 U.S. Open, which will be held at Chambers Bay in University Place, Wash. The record number of entries is 10,217, last year's total leading up to the Open at Pinehurst No. 2.

Local qualifying for the 2015 Open has begun. The Tennessee sites for local qualifiers next Wednesday are Holston Hills in Knoxville and Colonial Country Club near Memphis.

Weaver in GSGA final

Rochelle Weaver of Resaca, Ga., plays this morning against Barbara Brown of Carrollton in the Super Senior flight one championship match of the GSGA's Senior Women's Match Play at Sunset Hills Country Club in Carrollton.

Weaver won 5 and 4 over Anne Allen of Pelham and 2 and 1 over Liz Butler of Greensboro to reach the final. Laura Coble of Augusta is the main champion, taking a forfeit over three-time winner Brenda Pictor of Marietta in the final.

Signal event next week

Applications for the 79th Signal Mountain Invitational are available at the club as well as at www.IfYouLikeGolf.com.

The tournament is scheduled for May 15-17 and is one of few Chattanooga-area tournaments that award World Amateur Golf Ranking points as well as Scratch Player world amateur points. The tournament also will have senior and Stableford divisions. The entry fee is $160.

North Georgia Invitational

Applications for the 64th annual North Georgia Invitational are available by contacting the Dalton Golf and Country Club and at www.IfYouLikeGolf.com. The tournament will be held May 30-31. The $150 entry fee includes a practice round as well as lunch on both days.
