UTC's Gosselin tied for State Open lead

University of Tennessee at Chattanooga golfer Wes Gosselin from Knoxville is tied with Kingston's Chas Narramore for first place at 5-under-par 67 after the first round Tuesday of the SunTrust State Open at The Club at Fairvue Plantation.

Longtime state amateur star Tim Jackson of Germantown is in a five-way tie for third at 68 with Clarksville's Hunter Richardson, Nashville's Andrew Vonlossow, Centerville's Grant Leaver and Franklin's Michael Monroe, and Brentwood's Dawson Armstrong, Knoxville's Davis Shore and Gallatin's Kevin Lee shot 69s.

Signal Mountain's Mikey Feher is in a group of seven at 70 that most notably includes Garrett Willis, and Cody Godfrey of Charleston is tied for 18th at 71. The big group sharing 27th place at even-par 72 includes Richard Spangler Jr. of Hixson.

Crossville's Greg Wyatt opened with a 73, as did Lee University golfer Taylor Davis of Franklin, and Harrison's David Weeks, McMinnville's Brett Patterson and Tullahoma's Jared Nelson had 74s.
