Postponed three weeks ago because of wet course conditions, the 2017 Men's Metro golf tournament ran into wet weather Friday morning and again was a scratch. It now will be a two-day event with everyone playing both today and Sunday at Black Creek Club. "We started at 8 and called it at 10:30," co-tournament director Mike Jenkins said, explaining that the partial round officially was wiped out. Friday's tee times were shifted to today.

- Tulane University graduate Samantha Troyanovich maintained a two-shot lead Friday at 141 in the second round of the Tennessee Women's Open at Fairfield Glade's Stonehenge Golf Club. The Florida resident shot an even-par 72. Michigan native Sarah Hoffman shot 68 and is second at 143, two shots ahead of amateurs Nadine White and Elsa Moberly. Chattanooga amateur Blakesly Warren carded a 75 and is tied for fifth at 146 with pros Fatima Cano and Josee Doyon. The open division of the tournament ends today. In the senior division Jean Kraft of Crossville was the low amateur and second at 161 but 13 shots behind Veronica Karaman, and Charleston's Maggie Scott tied for fourth at 167.

Baseball

- Former Sequatchie County High School star Dakota Hudson was promoted Thursday by the St. Louis Cardinals to their Class AAA team in Memphis. Hudson, who pitched collegiately for Mississippi State and is the ninth-ranked prospect in the Cardinals' system, was due to make his 19th start of the season for the Springfield (Mo.) Cardinals on Thursday but was sent to Memphis after Luke Weaver was called up to the big-league club. Hudson was 9-4 with a 2.53 earned run average and 77 strikeouts in 18 starts and 114 innings for Springfield.

- The Middle Valley 6-under baseball all-stars won their age group's Dizzy Dean World Series last week in Southaven, Miss. After winning all-star tournaments at Hixson, East Brainerd and Middle Valley and finishing second at Harrison and to Harrison in the Dizzy Dean state, Middle Valley's young players won the BPA 6-under state in Nashville. At Southaven they were seeded first out of 16 teams after pool play and went on to the championship with wins over the 2016 champions from Northport, Ala., the supposed favorites from Gardendale, Ala., and, in extra innings, the East Side Thunder from Georgia. The Thunder came back to beat Middle Valley in the first final and to tie the score at 13 in the second final after falling behind 11-1, but Middle Valley won 15-13. Middle Valley's Murphy Wood, Knox Johnson, Sawyer Hollister, Matthew Price and MVP Bryce Green made the all-tournament team. Other players for the champions were Ryder Gooden, Landen McCoin, Colten Wood, Mason Boyd and Carter Massengale. Coaches were Tike Gooden, Josh Green, Daniel Price and Thomas Wood.

Soccer

- New Covenant College men's soccer coach Scott Bosgraf has hired former Dordt College standout Brady Van Holland as his full-time assistant. A three-time All-Great Plains Athletic Conference player at the Iowa school, Van Holland spent the last two years coaching under-19, -15, -14 and -12 boys in the Whatcom FC Rangers club program in Bellingham, Wash. He has an "E" coaching license and is working toward his "D" license. "He brings a great passion for Christ and soccer to Covenant and will be a great fit for our program," Bosgraf said in a school release. "His ability to work well with others was strongly evident from our first encounter. I truly anticipate his knowledge and work ethic will have an immediate impact on the team both on and off the field."

Fishing

- Jacob Wheeler of Harrison is in 30th place with a five-bass limit totaling 17 pounds, 12 ounces after Friday's round in the Bassmaster Elite tournament on Lake Champlain in New York. The leader at 21-1 is Todd Faircloth of Jasper, Texas. Thursday's scheduled first round was called off because of bad weather, so all 109 pros will compete again today. The top 51 will hit the lake Sunday.
