Andrew Weathers just hung around on the putting green Sunday after he finished his round in the Chattanooga Men's Metro golf tournament at Black Creek Club.

He surely had a nice-sized gift certificate to the pro shop coming his way, in whatever spot he wound up, and he had to wait for the three threesomes behind his to finish in order to get it. There was also the chance he could end up in a playoff, considering he had just shot a 4-under-par 68 to go with his first-round 72. But it turned out that wasn't the case.

Instead, his total held up for a one-stroke victory.

Mitch Hufstetler made it three Metro titles in four years in the senior division with his 136, good enough for a four-shot win over runner-up Bob Rice.

Ronnie Law ended up champion of the super seniors, edging Mike Borkowski 141-142, with Larry McGill finishing third at 147.

All nine playing behind Weathers had shot rounds below par in Saturday's opening round, but none approached what Weathers did Sunday. He was 6 under before bogeys on Nos. 16 and 17, yet others in contention had worse closing outcomes than that.

Mikey Feher ended up second in a scorecard playoff, and he wasn't among the nine playing behind Weathers' group but rather in the threesome ahead. Last year's winner at Council Fire, Ben Rebne, and Hunter Vest also totaled 141s and ended up third and fourth.

"I made a lot of putts today," Weathers said. "I also four-putted."

That came on No. 6, but he quickly put it behind him. A good tee shot on the par-3 seventh hole led to a par, then he birdied No. 8.

Given the scores ahead of him coming into Sunday's play, plus the number of talented golfers in the field, Weathers said he thought he might have to shoot 6 or 7 under in the second round to have a chance at winning. A 64 is the best round at Black Creek for the former McCallie and University of Tennessee at Chattanooga golfer, but not quite that good proved to be good enough.

"It's awesome," Weathers said. "I played last week in the Choo Choo Invitational at Council Fire. I played well, other than one round. It all came together this weekend. I'm glad it did in such a great tournament."

Final-group member Cody Godfrey (142) won a scorecard playoff for fifth over David Watts. First-day leader Brooks Thomas wound up seventh at 143.

Hufstetler's scorecard Sunday looked similar to his Saturday card in that both had five birdies and one bogey. They just weren't the same holes.

There was a common theme with his game both days. He dropped his score by three shots early in his second round by rolling in a 15-foot birdie putt on No. 3, followed by 10-footers on the next two holes and an eight-footer on No. 8 to counteract his bogey two holes earlier.

With the cushion he had at the turn, Hufstetler said he "sort of went into preventative mode" on the back. He birdied the par-5 No. 14, which he also did Saturday, and on the rest he made pars.

"I putted well," Hufstetler said. "I made some really good putts. I made a bogey on 6. That was the only hole I didn't putt well for the whole tournament. On 13, I had a two-and-a-half-footer for par. That was the longest par putt I had. It was really kind of a stress-free round."

Tom Baird was third among the seniors at 141, and Tim Crawford was next at 143. At 145, Richard Keene won a scorecard playoff over Neil Spitalny for fifth.
