Area sports notes: Neil Spitalny, John Williams repeat state four-ball title

Chattanooga's Neil Spitalny and John Williams repeated their 2017 Tennessee Super Senior Four-Ball golf championship with the 2018 title Friday at Montgomery Bell State Park at Burns. They defeated Ed Link of Memphis and Frank Dial of Fairview 4 and 2. Dial also was a runner-up last year, with Scott Felker, to Spitalny and Williams at Loudon's Toqua Golf Club. Friday's win gave Spitalny four Tennessee Golf Association senior or super senior championships in the last four years. Also Friday, Dan Schorsten and Bjorn Svedin of Henderson won the State Senior Four-Ball with a 1-up victory over Springfield residents Mike Gallagher and Butch O'Kelley.

' The 2018 Georgia Junior Championship and Georgia Girls' Championship will be held Monday through Wednesday. The boys' tournament at Rivermont Golf Club at Johns Creek will include Tucker Windham of Fort Oglethorpe, Ethan Day of Dalton and Beck Burnette of Blairsville. Among the entrants in the girls' event at the Country Club of Roswell are Tori Owens of Chatsworth and Macall Miller of Chickamauga.

' Red Bank High School track and field standout Cole Bullock became a national champion Friday in Greensboro, North Carolina. Bullock, who just finished his junior season with the Lions, won the New Balance Emerging Elite national mile at North Carolina A&T in 4 minutes, 16.32 seconds.
