Ralph Potter is coming back home.

After five years as head football coach and athletic director at Brentwood Academy, Potter has agreed to return to his alma mater and coach McCallie's football program.

Potter began his head coaching career at Baylor, taking the Red Raiders to the state quarterfinals in the last of his three years, and then spent 10 years as McCallie's coach, winning one state championship and finishing runner-up once before resigning in January 2007 to accept the Brentwood Academy offer.

In his five years at the Nashville-area school, Potter guided the Eagles to a 46-17 record and two state-runner-up finishes. During the same time frame, McCallie went 24-30, never winning more than six games in a single season, was 0-5 against BA and had two head coaches. Athletic director Bubba Simmons coached the Blue Tornado in 2011 and will remain the school's AD.

Potter, 48, said his contract with BA runs through March 30 and he will assist that school in its coaching search if asked.
