Brothers Matthew and Mitch Brock from Chattanooga Golf and Country Club are tied for seventh after the first round Monday in the Tennessee PGA Section's E-Z-GO Pro-Pro Championship at Chattanooga's Black Creek Club. The Brocks combined for a 7-under-par 65, five shots behind the co-leading duos of defending champions Chase Brannon and Johan Kok from Nashville's Richland and Temple Hills country clubs and 2007 winners Chris Dibble (Holston Hills, Knoxville) and Randy Helton (Riverbend, Shelbyville). Keith Burdette from Bear Trace at Harrison Bay and partner Greg Wyatt from Crossville are tied for ninth at 66 along with former Cleveland resident Nick Bailes and his partner, John Bridgeman. The tournament ends today.
Brooks Thomas took a four-stroke lead in the City Junior golf tournament with a 68 Monday at the Champions Club at Hampton Creek. The event ends today. Emily Javadi and reigning state Girls Amateur champion Blakesly Warren lead the girls division with 72s, and Lake Johnson heads the 14-15 boys and Sport Allmond tops the 12-13 boys with 76s.
OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. - Cleveland's Avery George shot an 85 Monday in the first round of the 2011 U.S. Girls Junior Amateur Championship at the Olympia Fields Country Club South Course. The Walker Valley High School golfer is tied for 145th place in the 156-player field. Ariya Jutanugarn of Thailand leads with a 68, one shot better than Irene Jung of Canada. Sophia Schubert of Oak Ridge shot a 73.

- Former University of Tennessee at Chattanooga place-kicker Craig Camay has signed with the Tampa Bay Storm of the Arena Football League. The Storm have one game remaining this season, Saturday against the San Jose Sabercats. Camay recently completed his season with the Trenton Steel of the Southern Indoor Football League. He was named that league's Special Teams MVP.
Auto Racing
- Josh Wisenbaker from Rock Spring won the Super Pro Class and $1,000 last Saturday night at the Brainerd Optimist Drag Strip and also won the 6:00 Heads Up Class and $2,000 by inches. Wisenbaker won in Super Pro with a 5.72-second run on a 5.70 dial in his 1985 Ford Thunderbird powered by a modified 454 Chevrolet engine with injected alcohol. Craig Cash from East Ridge was second with a 5.80 run on a 5.76 dial in his 632-cubic-inch Chevy-powered '87 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme. Wisenbaker, a former rookie of the year at the strip, edged Etowah's Jim Brackett for the 6:00 victory; Brackett was in a '95 Mustang GT. Johnny Lewis of Ringgold won the 7:00 Class in a 2010 Mazda, just ahead of Madisonville's Jeff Moses in a '93 Mustang GT.

- Chattanooga Football Club player Drew Courtney is the new men's soccer assistant coach for Nathan Pifer at Covenant College. He succeeds Shane Dasher, the new head coach at Montreat College. Courtney, a former Chattanooga Christian School standout who started for four years at Lander University and played in three NCAA Division II national tournaments, had been a graduate assistant the last two seasons at Belhaven in Jackson, Miss., where he received a master's degree this year. The Blazers went 26-6-5 during that time and reached the NAIA nationals last fall. Before playing for the CFC, Courtney played for the Southern California Seahorses and the Mississippi Brilla in the Premier Development League, and he coached the Brilla Juniors for two years.
Swimming
- The Fairyland Flash completed an 8-0 regular season in the Red Division of the Chattanooga Area Swim League with a makeup victory Monday night against Ridgeside and will challenge the top teams in the upper Blue Division in the CASL's City Meet this Friday and Saturday at the Warner Park pool. There is no CASL diving competition this year. Dalton led the Blue with a 7-1 record, followed by Signal Mountain at 6-2 and Stuart Heights at 5-3. The Ooltewah Tidal Waves also completed their season Monday, finishing second to Fairyland Club in the Red group at 6-2 with a win over third-place Cleveland. Cleveland's Mosby Park already had finished 8-0 in the White Division.
