The team of Adam Atkins, Bobby Atkins, Billy Barrett and Rob Langford won the Cooga Mooga top flight in the two-day Bethel Bible Village golf tournament at Bear Trace at Harrison Bay. They shot a 110 for the 36 holes, one better than Jeff Collier, Bobby Majors, Charlie Poe and Jason Reynolds. Steve Dobson, Al Hoke, Scott Nance and Herman Weaver won the Chevy Showroom (first) flight with a 120, and Charles Alley, Doug Eaves, Bart Smith and Steve Wilson won the Ozark Jubilee flight by five strokes with a 126.
• VALDOSTA, Ga. - Former champion David Noll Jr. of Dalton moved up into a tie for 13th with a 73 Saturday in the second round of the Georgia Mid-Amateur Championship at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club, but at 148 he is 10 strokes behind 2006 winner Mark Strickland of Woodstock. Strickland has a four-shot lead on second-place Cason Hammock of Columbus going into the final round. Lee Gerdes, a Macon resident with Chattanooga ties, is tied for 27th at 151.
• Lee University's Courtney Shelton made the all-tournament team with her top-15 finish Friday in the NAIA women's golf nationals at Link Hills Country Club in Greeneville, Tenn. Lee was an at-large representative from the Southern States Athletic Conference won by Shorter. Third-place Shorter had two all-tournament golfers: Greta Lange and Lisa Persson.
Basketball
• Kayci McGee from Cedartown, Mia Morrow from Rome and Jesse Moore from Dade County were first-team all-conference players from the 2010-11 Georgia Northwestern Technical College basketball teams, and Kyle Wilson from Armuchee, Shadow Day from Chattooga and Kelsie Philpot from Rockmart were second-team representatives of the Bobcats and Lady Cats. Morrow, Ashley Crosby (Calhoun), Jessica Williams (Pepperell), Moore, Wilson, Tres Jackson (Ringgold), Matt Woods (Dade) and Ben Patton (Dade) were all-academic. GNTC men's coach David Stephenson is holding an open workout session Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Rossville Athletic Complex for anyone interested in trying out for the 2011-12 men's team. • SHREVEPORT, La. - Gerrit Goins of Cleveland, Tenn., finished eighth Saturday in the co-angler category of the BFL All-American fishing tournament on Cross Lake. Goins had a three-day total of 11 pounds of bass and received $3,000. Shane Winchester of Glasgow, Ky., was the co-angler winner with 22-2 and got $50,000. Jacob Wheeler of Indianapolis won the boater division by nine pounds with 36-3 and earned $100,000.
Auto Racing
• Todd Morrow won the Steel-Head Late Model race Friday night at Boyd's Speedway with Rick Hixson second and Lamar Scoggins, Bobby Mayse and Jamie Perry completing the top five. Jeff Smith won in Crate Late Models with Jerry Coffman second and Jason Welshan, Andy Miller and Kayne Hickman third through fifth, and Delbert Haynes won with Jordan Rodabaugh second in a hard-fought A-Hobby race that included disqualifications of two top contenders. Patrick Wilson won the caution-filled B-Hobby event with Brandon Francis second, and Matt Patton won in FWD with Thomas Gilbert the runner-up.
Sport Shooting
• Soddy-Daisy teams finished first and second in the high school varsity division of the youth sporting clays tournament held Saturday at Montlake Classic Clays by the Cherokee Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation and Gun Dog Development of Spring City. Blake Dunn, Paxton Pelfrey and Top Gun runner-up Sheldon Rodgers comprised the winning team with a 232 score on the 13-station course, and Payton Pelfrey, Mitch Pelfrey and Garrett Ables were the runners-up at 225. Another Soddy-Daisy shooter, Will Roberson, had the best individual overall score of 83, one better than Rodgers. Soddy-Daisy's Marc Carmasino and Zach Coleman tied for the top high school junior varsity score of 70 and with Cam Swope won the JV team award. Coy Reed of Sale Creek and Mark McFadden of Walker Valley had 69s in the JV group. Sale Creek's Marti Roberts, Alex Walker and Thomas Smith were the top middle school team, and Erica Dunn was the middle school Top Gun with a 70, with Tristan Clark second at 59. Soddy-Daisy's Shelby Dempsey won the high school individual alternate award.
