The Covenant College baseball team improved to 20-5 for the season by winning 5-2 and 3-1 Tuesday at Maryville.
Alhanon Miller (5-0) pitched a two-hitter and Alec Mitchell (4-1) and Jonah Paul combined on a four-hitter for the Scots, who are 9-0 on the road.
Paul Philllips and Will Cleland each had two hits, Sterling Witt scored twice and Perry Rigby was 1-for-2 with two RBIs in the first game, and Rigby was 2-for-3 and David Lockwood and Phillips had RBI doubles in game two.
• Cumberland 8, Lee 7: At Cleveland, the NAIA's 14th-ranked team edged the No. 1 Flames with Chris Hall going 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs and Tyler Anderson going 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs scored.
Derrick Pitts was 3-for-5 with two doubles, an RBI and a run for Lee (30-8), while Karsten Strieby and Mark Silva each had two hits and scored twice and Brandon Rader was 1-for-2 with two RBIs.
Bryan's scheduled home doubleheader against Oakwood was moved to today.
• Cleveland State 7-1, Tusculum JV 3-0: At Greeneville, Tenn., the Cougars rose to 19-13 with 13 hits in the first game and two in the second, when Tyler Kilgore and Derek Chandler combined for a six-hit shutout. Jared Davis had both Cleveland State hits, and his pinch-runner in the seventh, Zach Janes, stole second and moved around on a sacrifice bunt by Dalton Rogers and a fly by Cody Hiefnar.
Davis had a two-run single and Chase Edwards had two RBI hits in the first game, when Ethan Davis pitched five innings for the win.
