The Tennessee Temple University men's basketball team stretched its winning streak to 12 games with a 75-69 defeat of Union University in the semifinals of the National Christian College Athletic Association Division I tournament Friday night in Temple's McGilvray Gymnasium.

The Crusaders play today for a berth in the national tournament against Mid-Continent from Kentucky, which held off Hiwassee for a 95-90 victory.

Corieson Pearson and Daniel Marti had 23 and 20 points and eight and 11 rebounds Friday for Union (8-19), which moved this year from NAIA Division I to NCAA Division II, but the depth and balance of coach Brac Brady's Crusaders won out. Corey Sanders had 17 points, seven rebounds and four assists for Temple (21-11), while Rashaud Bell and Travaris Clarke each scored 11 points.

Antonio Davis and Charles Peden had 22 points apiece for Mid-Continent (18-13), Davis with eight assists and Peden with 11 rebounds, and Lee Ames scored 19 points. Justin Browner had 19 points and 10 assists for Hiwassee (8-24), while Jeff Golden and Cody Carson scored 18 and 17 points.

Union's women, a longtime NAIA power, beat Temple (15-15) 83-39 at Bluefield, Va., on Thursday and topped Bluefield 83-67 for the Mid-East title Friday. Bluefield beat Covenant (13-11) 81-60 on Thursday, but Covenant's Jessie Blankenship was first-team all-region.

Lady Senators roll

The nationally sixth-ranked Walters State women's basketball team ended Chattanooga State's season at 14-12 with a 71-44 victory Friday in the TCCAA/NJCAA Region VII tournament semifinals at Motlow College in Lynchburg, Tenn.

Donnesha Shuler and Tangela Crenshaw had 14 and 12 points and 10 and 11 rebounds for the deep Lady Senators (28-1), who play Volunteer State today for the region champioship, and MiShannon Wilbanks from Red Bank had 11 points and eight rebounds.

Khamiyah Crawford led Chattanooga State with 10 points and eight rebounds, and fellow All-TCCAA first-teamer Sierra Sales also hada eight rebounds. Stevonna Scott was a second-team choice from the Lady Tigers.

Walters also reached the men's final by continuing its upset run with a 52-51 win over third-seeded Cleveland State. Ralph Eason had 19 points and 11 rebounds and Dantario Dansby scored 11 points for Cleveland's Cougars (19-10). They had beat Southwest Tennessee in Thursday's late game with Travis Jones scored 24 points, Eason totaling 19 points and 12 rebounds and Trey Suttles grabbing 10 rebounds.

Top-seeded Motlow, ranked 18th, edged Jackson State 86-82 in the other semifinal with Chris Hawkins contributing 22 points and 13 rebounds and JC Bonny scoring 18 points.
