National honors for Furey, Yelton and other sports news

Lee University's Paul Furey and Matt Yelton have been selected the National Christian College Athletic Association soccer coaches of the year after their teams won the national championships recently in Kissimmee, Fla. They will receive the awards on Jan. 6 at the national soccer convention. "It certainly was an honor to be acknowledged by my peers for coach of the year," Furey said in a Lee release. "There are a number of very good and deserving coaches whom I respect and who had a terrific year as well, so it is humbling. This is an honor I can share with my assistant coaches and staff as well as my players." Yelton, who previously won four NAIA national titles with the Lady Flames, had similar remarks. "The reality is that this recognition would not have been possible without the quality staff I had to work with," he said. "Our players also deserve significant credit in that without their hard work and effort we would not have been a championship team."
