Bowling paces DSC's 10th win and other sports news

Dalton State scored the game's first 16 points and defeated Cumberland University from Lebanon, Tenn., 53-47 in the opening night Friday of the Roadrunner Holiday Classic at the Northwest Georgia Trade and Convention Center in Dalton. Jordan Bowling had 23 points and 10 rebounds for the Roadrunners (10-1), ranked 13th in NAIA Division I, while Sean Tate scored 12 points and Ladaris Green contributed 15 rebounds. CU is 5-9. The Roadrunners play today at 4 p.m. against the University of the Cumberlands (11-4) from Williamsburg, Ky., which beat Concordia-Selma 73-52 on Friday.

Host Hampden-Sydney defeated the Sewanee men's basketball team 58-48 in the championship game of the Luck Stone Holiday Tournament on Friday. Mike Murray made 13 free throws and scored 22 points for Hampden-Sydney (7-0), while Keshonn Carter had 18 points and seven rebounds, Jorden Williams scored 16 points with four 3-pointers and Marcellus Caldwell grabbed 11 rebounds for Sewanee (4-4).

Baseball

Two of the Chattanooga Cyclones travel baseball teams were ranked third best in their age group in Tennessee and in the top 70 nationally by the Perfect Game organization -- out of thousands of teams. The Cyclones were ranked 61st in 16-under and 69th in 17-under nationwide.
