Henderson going into TWC Hall of Fame and other sports news

Milwaukee Brewers relief pitcher Jim Henderson will be inducted in the Tennessee Wesleyan College Hall of Fame tonight. The induction ceremony will begin at 5 p.m. with a meet-and-greet session in Lawrence Parlor on campus, followed by dinner and the induction starting at 7 in the dining hall of his alma mater in Athens, Tenn.

• The Chattanooga State baseball team will be holding a fundraising pancake breakfast Saturday at the Applebee's restaurant on Brainerd Road, and the UTC softball team will hold one at the Applebee's in Northgate Mall a week later, on Jan. 25, from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. The Lady Mocs' event will cost $6. The Chattanooga State breakfast this Saturday is set for 8-10 a.m. and costs $5, and fans may buy updated Tigers gear with a new logo design.

Basketball

• Despite 31 points on 5-of-6 3-point shooting by Corey Billingsley and 18 points by Jamal Worthington, the Lee University men's basketball team lost 85-74 at West Alabama after the Lee women won 55-38 in the Gulf South Conference doubleheader Thursday night. Hollie German scored 25 on 7-of-13 3-point shooting for the Lady Flames.

• Tennessee Temple beat Hiwassee's basketball teams in two locations Thursday evening, the Lady Crusaders (5-10) winning 88-82 in Madisonville and the Crusaders (9-8) prevailing 66-61 in Chattanooga behind 24 points on 7-of-10 3s by Weedlens Beauvil and 17 points by Hampton Mack. Jordan Brown added 13 points and nine rebounds and Jarrett Smith had six assists for Temple.

• UTC women's basketball assistant John McCray will be the guest speaker for the Mocs Club's "Breakfast With the Coach" at 8:15 a.m. Saturday at Wally's Restaurant on McCallie Avenue, and the public is invited. Reservations are not needed.
