• Chattanooga's Lighthouse Lookouts/Athletic Shop men's slowpitch softball team was the co-champion of the Tennessee Senior Olympics 50-older division last weekend at Fieldstone Farms in Franklin. Earlier in the month the Lighthouse Lookouts, who moved up this year to the "major" classification from AAA, finished behind only three "major-plus" teams in their nine-team 50-over division of the ISSA Great Smoky Senior Classic at Maryville. At Franklin, the defending champion Lookouts won two warmup games Friday night, lost 20-18 to the Nashville Crystal Ballers on Saturday morning and then won 19-8 over the Power from Nashville, 21-4 over the Franklin Legends and 28-20 over the Crystal Ballers. The "if" game for the championship then got rained out. All-tournament Lookouts were Kevin Highsmith (.750, 8 homers, 18 RBIs), Bobby Adams (.720, 2, 9), Steve Moffett (.708, 3, 18), Van Shumaker (.682, 4, 12) and Mike Wood (.654, 3, 17), and the Chattanoogans hit .611 as a team. They hit .690 on a huge field at Maryville, where Shumaker batted .905 (19-of-21) with four homers and 25 RBIs in six games, Mark Talley .778 with three homers and 10 RBIs, Rodney Waters .760 with seven homers and 18 RBIs, Highsmith .750 with three homers and 15 RBIs, Butch Womack .720 with 12 RBIs, Wood .667 with three homers and nine RBIs and Adams .667 with 11 RBIs.
