Zacary Hawkins sparks Lee University Flames victory

Zacary Hawkins went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs batted in and two runs scored Tuesday night as the Lee University baseball team beat visiting Campbellsville 9-2 at Olympic Field in Cleveland.

The teams play again today at 3 p.m.

Derrick Pitts hit a two-run double and Zack Zyburt also had two RBIs for Lee (12-5), while Josh Tate was 2-for-4 and scored twice and four Flames pitchers totaled 15 strikeouts. Ryan Zimmer allowed four hits and two runs, both unearned, in four innings with five strikeouts, and Carlos Ditren pitched three hitless innings with another five Ks. Grayson Bailey and Jeremy Bales finished up with a hitless inning each and three and two strikeouts.

Lee scored five runs in the second inning and three in the seventh. Carlos Torres was 2-for-4 with a two-run hit for the 6-7 Kentucky team.

Bryan's scheduled game at Cumberland University was canceled, so the Lions set up a home against Shawnee State and won 5-4 with Justin Morhardt and Preston King homering, Morhardt with two RBIs, and Grant Zawadzki going 2-for-4. Todd Queener was 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs.

Chad Burrows pitched the first six innings, giving up six hits, five walks and three runs. L.J. Rowden gave up one hit and one run in the seventh, and Kenny Knudsen got the save with two scoreless innings.
