The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's golf team is third at 291 after Sunday and the first round of the Southern Conference tournament at Pinehurst, N.C. No. 40-ranked East Tennessee State leads at 286 on Pinehurst No. 9, followed by Wofford at 289. UNC Greensboro is fourth out of the eight teams at 294. UTC's Wes Gosselin is tied for third individually at 1-under-par 71, with Mocs teammates Ewan Scott and Andrew Weathers sharing 10th place and Liam Johnston and Brooks Thomas at 74 and 75.

Track & Field

* Carson-Newman's Randall Freeman from Ooltewah and Tiana Mills from Girls Preparatory School became the South Atlantic Conference field athletes of the year in the league track and field meet this past weekend in Hickory, N.C., and Eagles sophomore T.J. Davis from Ooltewah won the men's triple jump and long jump and was part of the fourth-place 4x100 relay. Freeman, a senior, competed in six events in two days and was first in javelin and shot put, third in discus and triple jump, seventh in long jump and ninth in high jump. Mills won the women's triple jump with a CNU, SAC and track record of 11.88 meters, giving her a provisional spot in the NCAA Division II meet, and was second in the long jump.

* Sewanee's Cortez Brown won the men's 100-meter dash and teammate Tyler Fishback won the high jump this past weekend at the Tigers' Mountain Lauren Invitational track and field meet, which also included athletes from Lee, Birmingham-Southern, Emory, North Alabama, Covenant and Emmanuel. Sewanee got additional wins from its 4x400 relay teams: Amy Buice, Kate Perry, L'Or Puymartin and Lexy Rouse and Davis Couch, Zach Abeles, Bradford Lepik and Will DuBose (with another Sewanee men's quartet third). Couch was second in the men's 400-meter dash. Lee had four of the top five men's 800 finishers, led by Harold Smith and Emmanuel Kipchumba, Smith and teammate Seth Eagleson were first and third in the 1500, Camden Perez and Terris Elliott were first and third in the 3000 steeplechase with Covenant's Graham Massot fourth and Lee's Hunter Goforth won the high jump. The Flames' Rick Barry was the runner-up in both hurdles events, and Sewanee's Ridge Davis was second in javelin throw with the Tigers' Lonnie Scott third in shot put and Thomas Walters third in pole vault. Lee's Adrian Martin won the women's 200 and 400 dashes and was second in the 100, and the Lady Flames' Jessica Childers won the 1500 with teammates Audrey Smith and Elizabeth Sillcocks second and third and the 800 with Sewanee's Amy Lee third. Childers and Sillcocks were second and third in the 3000, Lee's Emily Bryan and Monica Allison were second and third in the 400 hurdles and teammate Kaitlyn Kincer was second in long jump with Sewanee's Karagan Day second in triple jump and javelin throw and Amy Nelson second in discus and hammer throw.

Basketball

* The inaugural CABC Chattanooga Showcase held Saturday at Baylor School included 29 high school boys' basketball players and representatives from eight colleges. Former NBA player Dickey Simpkins and Covenant College coach Kyle Taylor were special speakers, and Central junior Ryan Montgomery was the Showcase MVP.

Softball

* The UTC softball game scheduled for Sunday against Western Carolina was rained out. UTC is 29-9 overall, 10-1 in the Southern Conference, and is set to visit Middle Tennessee State on Tuesday at 6 p.m. EDT.

Tennis

* The Heritage High School girls' tennis team finished second in the Region 7-AAAA tournament after the championship round was cancelled due to rain. The Lady Generals defeated Southeast Whitfield, 5-0, and Gilmer County, 3-2, and were to face Cartersville in the title round. Cartersville, the regular season champion, was awarded first place and the No. 1 playoff seed. Heritage will host North Oconee Tuesday at 4:30 in the first round of the playoffs.

GOLF

Dalton State College won the Southern States Athletic Conference Women's Championship Sunday with a team total of 599, winning by 21 strokes over Mobile. Freshman Caroline Griffin earned medalist honors with a 144, followed by Julia McQuiken, whose 145 was tied for second low. Erika Wardzinski and Rachel Rebne each totaled 156 and Taylor Marie Griner shot 163.
