Rowe gets 300th win as Lee coach and other college sports news

The Lee University women's basketball team gave Marty Rowe his 300th coaching win at the Cleveland school with a 74-53 Gulf South Conference home victory Thursday against Mississippi College.

Rowe is 300-66 in his 11th season at Lee and 431-131 in his 17th season as a college coach.

Emileigh Swafford score 24 poionts and Shelby Brown had 17 points and eight rebounds for the Lady Flames (15-8, 12-8), who got 14 points from Erin Walsh and six assists from Alex Swope. Ashley Minor had 18 points and six steals for Mississippi College (8-16, 4-16).

Lee won the men's game 92-85 as Stedmon Ford scored 29 points and Chase Cullen had 21 points and four steals, while Corey Billingsley added 17 points. Ford was 5-of-8 on 3-point shots, and he and Billingsley were a combined 17-of-20 on free throws.

The Tennessee Temple doubleheader against Hiwassee was postponed.

* At Dayton, Tenn., Bryan's Lady Lions knocked 25th-ranked Union College out of second place in the Appalachian Athletic Conference and into a tie with them for third with a 71-57 win in a game postponed a day. First-place and 18th-ranked Union won the men's game 91-63.

Kristin Lane scored 20 points and Megan Billingsby had 14 points and seven rebounds for Bryan (20-7, 14-5), while Keila Formont had 12 points and eight rebounds and Kelsey Brooks made four steals. Brandon Cole had 19 points and 10 rebounds and Tyler Yoder added 12 points while Oteriah Lee had six assists in defeat for the fifth-place Lions.

* At Blue Mountain, Miss., NAIA Division I sixth-ranked Dalton State held off Blue Mountain 66-62 as Jamaine Burrey scored 23 points, including 20 in the second half of the Southern States Athletic Conference game. He was 5-of-9 on 3s while teammate Sean Tate was 4-of-9 in scoring 16 points. The Roadrunners (23-3, 13-2) trailed by 10 early in the final half. Shane Butler led the hosts with 18 points.

* Wednesday at Montgomery, Ala., the Covenant women lost the second game of the USA South doubleheader against Huntingdon, 80-68, despite 22 points from Jessica Bell and seven assists from Morgan Woodward. Bell was 8-of-11 from the field and 6-of-7 on free throws.
