Sewanee basketball teams split with Centre

Sewanee's basketball teams split a Southern Athletic Association doubleheader with Centre College on Sunday, with the men's team rallying for a 53-51 win while the women's team had their rally fall short in a 67-63 loss. McCallie graduate Jorden Williams led the Tigers (6-4, 1-0 SAA) with 14 points, including eight in the first half, and five rebounds in the win. Sewanee trailed by five at the half, but Marcellus Caldwell scored 10 of his 12 points in the second half to lead the comeback. Keshonn Carter added 10 points and five rebounds for the Tigers. Centre (9-1, 0-1) had five players score in double figures, led by Blake Scinta's 13 points and a team-leading six rebounds. In the women's game, Sewanee (7-2, 0-1) trailed 45-37 at the half, and Jamie Chauvin scored 13 of her 20 points after the break to get the Tigers back into the game, but Centre's Maggie Hartlage scored 25 points, including 10 in the second half, to help the Colonels (5-6, 1-0) pick up the win. Hannah McCormack scored 18 points for Sewanee, and Kayla Sewell had five points and eight rebounds in the loss.
