Earle, Bowling lead Roadrunners to 14th win and other sports news

Preston Earle scored 29 points and Jordan Bowling had 17 points and 15 rebounds as Dalton State College beat visiting Auburn-Montgomery 77-62 in Southern States Athletic Conference basketball Friday night at Mashburn Arena. Earle was 6-of-11 on 3-point shots. Ladaris Green added 13 rebounds with nine points and Anthony Hilliard scored 11 points for the Roadrunners (14-2, 5-1), who are ranked 14th in NAIA Division I. LeShaun Murphy had 21 points and seven rebounds and Dalton High School graduate Tristen Harrell scored 15 points for Auburn-Montgomery (6-9, 1-5).

Amanda Rector provided 26 points and four assists as Tennessee Temple defeated visiting Judson (Ala.) 85-55 in women's basketball Friday. Sloane Woodard scored 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting, Angel Foster had 17 rebounds and six blocked shots with 10 points and Kirsten Fowler passed for five assists for Temple (5-8). Bianca Phillips led Judson with 20 points and eight rebounds.

Sewanee split its Southern Athletic Association home basketball doubleheader Friday night, Millsaps winning the women's game 40-36 without a double-figure scorer and the Tigers prevailing 60-43 in the men's game with Keshonn Carter scoring 16 points and Jacob McCullough adding 10. Jamie Chauvin scored 14 points and Kayla Sewell had 12 rebounds and four blocks for the Sewanee women (7-4, 0-2); Velvet Johnson led Millsaps (10-3, 2-0) with nine points. The female Majors shot 29.6 percent from the floor while the Tigers shot 31.9 percent and committed 19 turnovers.

One had to win for the first time this season, and it was the home team, Methodist University, beating Covenant College 61-39 in a USA South women's basketball game Friday evening in Fayetteville, N.C. Methodist also won the preceding men's game, 57-51, as T.J. Gill contributed 17 points and nine rebounds and Mike Major had 10 rebounds and four steals with nine points. Colton McGriff paced the Scots (2-10, 1-2) with 13 points and six rebounds, while T.J. Cox had nine points and four assists. Haley Soles scored 17 points with five 3s and Rachel Price made five steals in defeat for the Lady Scots (0-11, 0-3), who shot 24.1 percent from the field and had 21 turnovers. The Monarchs (1-8, 1-2) had five players with 14 or 10 points; Jalisia Campbell had 14 plus 12 rebounds.

The Cleveland State Lady Cougars played for the first time in four weeks Friday and defeated Snead State 73-59 in nonconference junior college basketball at Boaz, Ala. That made the Lady Cougars 8-6 overall.
