David Noll Jr. of Dalton is a Georgia State Golf Association men's player of the year for a ninth time, but he shares the 2014 award with Kelby Burton of Evans and Robert Mize Jr. of Columbus. Atlanta's Margaret Shirley was the women's honoree and the Tommy Barnes Award recipient as the overall GSGA player of the year. Noll won his third Georgia Mid-Amateur title last May and represented the state association in two prestigious team competitions.

Bowling

Central High School senior Reggie Long heads a large group of Chattanooga-area individual qualifiers for the 2015 TSSAA state tournament starting Thursday morning at the Smyrna Bowling Center. Long qualified with the state's second-highest game average, 227.39. Brentwood junior Kamron Doyle led at 230.86. Also in the Division I boys' individual tournament are Logan Teague of McMinn County, Austin Varney of Stone Memorial, Kyle Dotson of Tullahoma, Tanner Kincaid and Briton Helton of Walker Valley and Matthew Long, Cody Sharp, Mason Hatfield and Jake Heater of Soddy-Daisy. Area Division I girls' qualifiers are Cassy Lee of Sequatchie County; Codie Samuelson of Rhea County; Hailey Muncey of Warren County; Ashley Streeter of Cumberland County; Alex Patterson and Haley Crabtree of Stone Memorial; Sara Taylor, Katrina Stickel and Lacie Heater of Soddy-Daisy; and Alexis Rutledge, Kara Davidson and Angel Davis of Walker Valley. Local Division II individual qualifiers are Sho Takiguchi and Rachel Payne of Baylor; Jay Moorefield, Sam Wood, Luke Hamilton and Graham Leech of McCallie; and Taylor Battle, Taylor Reid, Alyson Parris, Meagan Scott and Angela Bonds of Girls Preparatory School. GPS, McCallie and Walker Valley's girls are set for the team competition in Smyrna, and either the McMinn County or Tullahoma boys will join them after their sectional matchup today. The Walker Valley boys can qualify also.

Basketball

University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's basketball assistant coach Brooks Savage will be the guest speaker for the Chattanooga Quarterback Club's noon luncheon meeting today at Finley Stadium, and the public is invited. Admission costs $10 with a meal, $4 without.
