Skinner wins USCS event at Boyd's Speedway and other sports news

Marshall Skinner of Marion, Ark., overtook Eric Riggins Jr. of Charlotte, N.C., and won the United Sprint Car Series Outlaw Thunder Tour race Friday night at Boyd's Speedway. It was Skinner's second tour win this year - and second in a row - and put him at 27 in all-time USCS victories. He started fifth in Friday's 30-lap race and worked his way to the front, passing Riggins for the lead on lap 14. Riggins, who leads the USCS Southern Tour in points, said lapped traffic helped keep him from getting away from Skinner to start with, and then from catching him. Bartlett, Tenn., residents Anthony Nicholson and Terry Gray finished third and fourth, and Danny Martin Jr. of Sarasota, Fla., was fifth with Outlaw Tour points leader Morgan Turpen of Cordova, Tenn., sixth. Aubrey Black of Lookout Mountain, Ga., was 11th out of the 16 finishers.

"This year's group set the bar very high in terms of academic achievement, and I appreciate their efforts. It is also a credit to the outstanding academic support staff we have at UTC who help guide our players."
