Cleveland's Brandon Cissom and Lee University coach John Maupin earned medalist honors as a team at 9-under-par 63 in the Tennessee Four-Ball qualifier Monday at Cleveland Country Club.
Eleven teams advanced to the state event, which will be played July 26-29 at the same course, including the area duos of Tucker Snipes and Will Snipes, Matt Robertson and Matt Hadden, Bob Rice and Drew Mays and Cody Godfrey and Keoni Vidrine.
Publinks match play for Patterson, Fox
Middle Tennessee State University golfer Brett Patterson from McMinnville and University of Tennessee at Chattanooga senior Steven Fox from Hendersonville advanced comfortably to match play in the U.S. Amateur Public Links tournament at Soldier Hollow in Midway, Utah. Patterson tied for fifth in stroke play Monday and Tuesday with a 4-under-par 138, and Fox shot 142.
UTC freshman Kory Webb from Knoxville shot 148 and missed making the low 64 moving on to today's round.
The Publinks champion earns a spot in the Masters if he remains an amateur until the April tournament in Augusta, Ga.
"Getting to match play was the first goal, because whether you're No. 1 or No. 64, you've got a chance," Fox said by cell phone after spending a couple hours four-wheeling in Utah. "I hit the ball well both days, but I had a lot of putts both days. Even par on this course is pretty good.
"My goal now is to take it one match at a time and play the guy I'm paired with."

Loza recently graduated with a 3.97 grade point average in mechanical engineering and was a three-time All-American Scholar and the 2012 Dayle May Award winner as UTC's senior female student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA.
Kryger, now a sophomore, maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA during her freshman year. She recently tied for 28th in the Ladies Norwegian Challenge on the Nordea Tour. Teammate Marion Duvernay tied for 11th at the Grand Prix de Chiberta.
