The fifth annual Tennessee Bike Summit is set to be held in Chattanooga's Innovation District April 22 - 23, hosted by Bike Walk Tennessee and Bike Walk Chattanooga.

The conference boasts keynote speakers from around the country and Tennessee experts focusing on the role that bicycling plays in improving health, spurring economic development and creating vibrant neighborhoods.

The summit is Tennessee's largest annual gathering of bicycling advocates, enthusiasts, transportation professionals and government officials. This year's summit will focus on public health, economic development, infrastructure and policy.

The keynote speakers are Andy Clarke (former president of the League of American Bicyclists), Leslie Meehan (Assistant Director of the Office of Primary Prevention with the Tennessee Department of Health) and Russ Roca and Laura Crawford (The Path Less Pedaled).

Bike Walk Tennessee hosted the first Tennessee Bike Summit in Chattanooga in 2012. Since then, the city started a bike share system, built a nationally recognized enforcement program, constructed one of the state's first protected bicycle lanes and became a regional hub for outdoor recreation.

"Since we began producing the Tennessee Bike Summit, Tennessee has become one of the most bicycle-friendly states in the Southeast," Matt Farr, Executive Director of Bike Walk Tennessee, said in a news release. "We're excited to bring the Summit back to Chattanooga for the first time since we hosted it here in 2012. The Scenic City has a great bicycle story to tell, and the Summit will be a great place to tell it."

Registration for the summit, which takes place at the public library downtown and the Edney Building, $90 for both days or $50 for a single day pass.
