Gordon Lee

The Chattanooga area is well represented in all classifications of this year’s Tennessee Sports Writers Association all-state football teams.

TRENTON, Ga. — For much of the season so far, the Gordon Lee girls' basketball team has relied heavily on its post duo of Katelyn and Madelyn Lee. Tuesday evening, though, the sisters were neutralized by the Dade County posts and foul trouble, so the Lady Trojans had to turn to their guards.

RINGGOLD, Ga. — Gordon Lee girls' basketball coach Lester Galyon couldn't remember the last time his program had lost three consecutive games. Because of Friday night, it's not a stat he'll have to look up again for a while.

Barring appeal, Georgia high schools have been placed in regions for the 2014-16 academic years. In most cases with northwest Georgia athletic programs, the result is less travel and some new rivals.

CHICKAMAUGA, Ga. — There are a few things Brent Raby knows about his 2013-14 Gordon Lee High School wrestling team — and a few he doesn't.

On paper, it was the worst loss of Tyner basketball coach Gerald Harris's six-year coaching career. In the moments after that game, he said his team simply was outplayed, but his Rams knew exactly what happened, and heading into this season they feel they know what it's going to take to ensure that won't happen again.

CHICKAMAUGA, Ga. — Gordon Lee High School has turned into Titlesville and with team championships comes more individual attention.

COLUMBUS, Ga. — For the second consecutive season, the northwest Georgia area came away from the GHSA State Softball Championships with three titles and a runner-up trophy.

COLUMBUS, Ga. — Asked to recall the biggest hit of her high school softball career, Gordon Lee's Jordyn Hamill had no answer.

COLUMBUS, Ga. — Northwest Whitfield and Calhoun played their way into the championship round of the GHSA Softball Championships in Class AAAA and AA, respectively, after late-night wins Friday.

COLUMBUS, Ga. — Calhoun coach Diane Smith admitted her team had "a big case of the nerves" in its opening game of the GHSA Class AA state softball tournament Thursday, but once those nerves were shaken, the second-ranked Lady Yellow Jackets took off.

The last Friday of Tennessee's high school football regular season has numerous coaches changing their postgame rituals.

Storyline: The District 7-AA championship is on the line. Signal can take it with a win while Sequatchie would need to win and Grundy County beat Notre Dame to get it.
