Gordon Lee

CHICKAMAUGA, Ga. — When Lester Galyon allows himself to look at the video of Monday night's 64-56 Georgia Class A girls' first-round playoff loss to Towns County, the Gordon Lee coach will see that his team did almost everything right.

A week off was one of the last things Brent Raby or Sam Snider wanted to see. Inactivity is the enemy of a wrestling coach, and when an unexpected vacation comes during championship week, emergency mode sets in.

One of the fun things the rail birds at Gordon Lee High School baseball games enjoyed doing during last season's magical run to the Class A championship was debate on when THE inning was going to happen.

Top 11 team scores: 1. Cleveland 215, 2. Wilson Central 166.5, 3. Bradley Central 141, 4. Ravenwood 132, 5. Soddy-Daisy 120.5, 6. Franklin 108.5, 7. Heritage 102, 8. Clarksville 98.5, 9. Cookeville 96.5, 10. Blackman 84.5, 11. Walker Valley 84.

The Georgia High School Association announced the sites for the postponed state traditional wrestling tournament Friday afternoon, electing to hold separate events next week for each of its six classes.

TRION, Ga. — If any good news can come out of a 65-point loss, Ed Clendenen was able to find it.

TSSAA Class AAA state wrestling results

The GHSA Wednesday announced the postponement of the state traditional wrestling tournament, which was scheduled to take place this weekend at the Gwinnett Center in Duluth, due to travel concerns.

For most of the high school wrestlers competing across the state of Georgia on Saturday, the goal was all about achieving individual glory. However, for those representing three north Georgia area programs there was a bit more at stake.

The goal at Hixson High School hasn’t changed. Coach Garrick Hall and the Wildcats want to win the region wrestling tournament.

The area's busiest Tennessee campuses during signing day were Baylor and East Hamilton, which had five players each who signed scholarships Wednesday.

Brent Raby admits he's a bit of a worrier, but the Gordon Lee High School wrestling coach could have saved himself the stress.

All high school sporting events in the Chattanooga area were called off because of Tuesday's snowstorm, creating more scheduling problems on top of those caused previously by unusually cold temperatures.
