LaFayette

After down-to-the-wire regular-season races, Chattanooga-area high school baseball teams begin their seasons of no return this week.

LaFayette High School golf coach Tom Langford thought for a moment that his team had seized control of the Georgia Region 7-AAAA championship Tuesday at Nob North Golf Course.

DALTON, Ga. — Dalton's tennis teams were among five area teams that claimed wins on the first day of the Region 7-AAAA tennis tournament at Lakeshore Park on Wednesday.

The injured mouth and dental repair for one player and the staples in the head of another eventually will be forgotten, but Arts & Sciences baseball coaches, players, administrators and fans never will forget the heart-felt hospitality and sympathy extended by host Marion County after two Patriots players collided during a game last week.

The halfway mark of the Georgia high school baseball region schedules is here, and little has been decided in the Chattanooga area.

A week off was one of the last things Brent Raby or Sam Snider wanted to see. Inactivity is the enemy of a wrestling coach, and when an unexpected vacation comes during championship week, emergency mode sets in.

The goal at Hixson High School hasn’t changed. Coach Garrick Hall and the Wildcats want to win the region wrestling tournament.

The area's busiest Tennessee campuses during signing day were Baylor and East Hamilton, which had five players each who signed scholarships Wednesday.

DALTON, Ga. — The Dalton basketball Catamounts are a little territorial, and Friday night that meant bad news for visiting LaFayette.

All high school sporting events in the Chattanooga area were called off because of Tuesday's snowstorm, creating more scheduling problems on top of those caused previously by unusually cold temperatures.

Shane Turner had high hopes when he assumed the head-coaching duties for Red Bank's wrestling program.

ELLIJAY, Ga. — For the first time since Georgia started crowning wrestling duals champions, the extreme northwest Georgia area will not have a representative from its largest region at next week's state tournament.

The holiday season is only a couple of days gone, which means ... it's postseason time in Georgia high school wrestling?

The Chattanooga area is well represented in all classifications of this year’s Tennessee Sports Writers Association all-state football teams.

Barring appeal, Georgia high schools have been placed in regions for the 2014-16 academic years. In most cases with northwest Georgia athletic programs, the result is less travel and some new rivals.
