The TSSAA is going from five- to seven-man on-field officiating crews for this year's football playoffs.
In the remaining two weeks of the regular season, North Murray High School softball coach Steve Granger will not have to try to convince his Lady Mountaineers that they can win big games. He now has proof after they kept their postseason hopes alive with a 6-2 Region 5-AAA win over Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe on Thursday.
As soon as his players cleared the locker room following last Thursday's victory over Boyd-Buchanan, Notre Dame football coach Charles Fant scurried home and checked his bags and travel arrangements.
Storyline: The Battle of White Oak Mountain III features two of the Chattanooga area’s most balanced and potent offensive attacks.
When the Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe Warriors take the field at Adairsville tonight for their Region 5-AAA opener, they will have a familiar face rooting them on.

So who, besides me, bit the dust over the weekend?
Storyline: The Panthers came within a field goal of their first win last week at Red Bank, and they may be settling in offensively. Sam Caffey had a 300-yard passing game last week. Baylor will be their second Division II-AA opponent in three weeks, and the Red Raiders are coming off their first loss of the season. The Baylor offensive scheme is built around RB George Porter, who ranks second among area rushers. Sophomore Ryan Parker has been the Red Raiders' top defender, already with four sacks and five lost-yardage tackles.
Hunter Moore set a school record Friday with an amazing passing performance, and the fact that he did it for East Hamilton only added to the amazement.
So anybody want to talk about surprises?
