Ridgeland

Alabama redshirt sophomore receiver Michael Bowman is suspended from the team and is not expected to make the trip to New Orleans for the BCS championship game on Jan. 9.

Darryl Bridges doesn’t like practice, though it has nothing to do with not wanting to work hard or help make his teammates better.

The recruitment of Mason Harris just got interesting. The Ridgeland High School defensive end, who committed last summer to play football collegiately at South Carolina, got an offer from the University of Miami late last week.

Mason Harris thought the Region 7-AAA championship had just been lost.

For critics who believe the Ridgeland offense was missing a few pieces during the first few weeks of the football season, Friday night’s 41-14 Region 7-AAA win over LaFayette should further shelve such talk.

At least Mason Harris knows when and where to take his frustration out.

Mason Harris does his best before a big football game to keep his emotions in check. Friday night, with Dalton visiting, the Ridgeland High School senior defensive end didn’t even bother to try.

There are times when Courtnee Hall wishes her brain had an off switch or a mute button. Anything to keep the bad thoughts from taking control.

Before her first at-bat Tuesday, Ridgeland’s Kara Goins wasn’t feeling it. Instead of fretting over it, the senior deferred to a higher power. Following a quick prayer, Goins lofted a two-run homer that helped propel the Lady Panthers to a 4-3 softball win over LaFayette.

It’s rare in any competitive athletic event when opposing head coaches both leave the field of play with more positives than negatives.

It’s a formula not good for Scott Harden’s emotional well-being, but the Ridgeland High School softball coach will take a win any way he can get one.

For the second straight week, Allatoona held on late to pull off a football upset, this time upending two-time defending Region 7-AAA champion Ridgeland 17-14.
