Sequatchie County

No more games at Warner Park. No more games at White Oak Park. Red Bank has a true home field again.

There are three tournaments on the first weekend of Tennessee high school baseball, and at least 13 teams will be hosting games in McMinn Central's Playing for a (cancer) Cure tournament, the Scenic City Classic and the South Pittsburg Invitational.

Ironically the thread that ties together the mapdot towns making up the Sequatchie Valley is the same one that often divides its people.

If the regular-season champion Bledsoe County girls were going to win the District 7-AA high school basketball championship Monday at Signal Mountain, Chattanooga Christian was going to make them earn it. And they did.

Top 11 team scores: 1. Cleveland 215, 2. Wilson Central 166.5, 3. Bradley Central 141, 4. Ravenwood 132, 5. Soddy-Daisy 120.5, 6. Franklin 108.5, 7. Heritage 102, 8. Clarksville 98.5, 9. Cookeville 96.5, 10. Blackman 84.5, 11. Walker Valley 84.

TSSAA Class AAA state wrestling results

The Hixson Wildcats ran away with the state's first Region 2-A/AA wrestling championship, scoring 200 points and qualifying 12 for the traditional state tournament this week, after barely leading a close team race going into Saturday.

The goal at Hixson High School hasn’t changed. Coach Garrick Hall and the Wildcats want to win the region wrestling tournament.

The area's busiest Tennessee campuses during signing day were Baylor and East Hamilton, which had five players each who signed scholarships Wednesday.

All high school sporting events in the Chattanooga area were called off because of Tuesday's snowstorm, creating more scheduling problems on top of those caused previously by unusually cold temperatures.

One of the few accomplishments still left for Ken Colquette to achieve can now be added to his legendary coaching career. Colquette, who has spent much of his career coaching in the Sequatchie Valley, is one of eight new members to be inducted into the TSSAA Hall of Fame on April 5.

Shane Turner had high hopes when he assumed the head-coaching duties for Red Bank's wrestling program.

The Chattanooga area is well represented in all classifications of this year’s Tennessee Sports Writers Association all-state football teams.

Isaiah Robinson has consistently had good games throughout the season, amassing more than 1,300 yards through the regular season.

BENTON, Tenn. — Polk County football coach Derrick Davis spent a lot of time — and even more energy — getting his Wildcats prepared to play Sequatchie County in the first round of the Class 3A state playoffs Friday night.
