Cleveland High School's David Morgan is leaving today to compete in the U.S. Marine Corps' Semper Fidelis junior football combine in Phoenix, where he'll join Boyd-Buchanan lineman Malik Brewer.

The combine runs Sunday through Wednesday.

Cleveland quarterback Austin Herink, Signal Mountain quarterback Reese Phillips and Baylor linebacker Colton Jumper will be participating Thursday through Saturday in the U.S. Army Junior Combine in San Antonio.

The 6-foot-2, 211-pound Morgan split time at running back and played full-time at linebacker this past season for the Blue Raiders. He had 45 tackles, including nine for lost yardage and two sacks.

"He could be a college prospect as an outside linebacker," said E.K. Slaughter, Morgan's coach last season. "He plays hard, he's a physical kid and he's athletic. He was really solid for us defensively. Probably the best thing about him is that he doesn't stay blocked very long. That's what sticks out when I think about him playing."
