Crews new coach for Red Bank girls

Brandon Crews has been hired as girls' basketball coach at Red Bank High School.

Although he attended Tennessee Temple University on a baseball scholarship, Crews said basketball was his first love and knew he wanted to be a basketball coach. He said in addition to helping his athletes become better players, his objective is to prepare them for life after basketball.

Last season Crews was the high school boys' coach and athletic director at now-closed Temple Academy. The previous two years he was an assistant women's coach at Bryan College in Dayton. His first coaching experience was as a men's assistant at Tennessee Temple University, working for current Soddy-Daisy High School boys' coach Kevin Templeton, whom he credits as a big influence.

"The opportunity is there at Red Bank to take a team and do my own thing," Crews said. "I know there's athletes in the hallways. It's a matter of getting them out. The administration is very supportive. I'm excited about the future."

Red Bank principal Gail Chuy said she sensed good things about Crews as a coach and teacher during his interview. She added that he was highly recommended by several people she knows and respects.

"He's a very impressive young man," Chuy said. "He's the kind of person you want leading one of your basketball programs. He's very personable, very nice, and a very, very hard worker."

Crews has met with team members and shared his philosophies and now is directing summer workouts.

"We've got a really good core group of seniors coming back," Crews said. "We have the opportunity to have a pretty good year."
