DALTON, Ga. - Dalton High School basketball star Quaneisha McCurty, who led the Lady Catamounts to the GHSA Class AAA championship game, will sign with Indiana University next month.

McCurty had committed to Louisville University but had a change of heart after Louisville expressed concern about her eligibility and considered asking her to attend a junior college. Indiana coach Felisha Legette-Jack previously had recruited her, and it was a program McCurty thought highly of.

"I loved the coaching staff and the facilities," she said. "With Louisville, I just didn't like the program like I once did. I think Indiana will put me in a position to improve and be the best player I can be. I hope to go in and play right away."

The Hoosiers were just 9-20 this past season but return several talented young players. Dalton coach Jeff McKinney believes McCurty, who averaged 14 points, 12 rebounds and nearly five blocks per game for the 32-1 Lady Catamounts, will fit in well.

"They are a rebuilding program, so she can definitely help them, especially on the defensive end," said McKinney, who said McCurty's eligibility shouldn't be a concern. "They love her touch from 16 feet and the fact she can play with her back to the goal or facing it."

• McCurty, the Best of Preps North Georgia player of the year, and teammate Amanda Rector were two of seven northwest Georgia girls to earn all-state honors from the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association. Calhoun's Taylor Palmer was named to the Class AA team, while Gordon Lee's Holli Brooks and Kassidy Blevins are part of the Class A team.

Dade County's Travis Core was named to the Class AA boys' team, and Murray County's Taylor Patterson is on the Class AAA squad.
