COLUMBUS, Ga. - The Ringgold baseball team beat Columbus 8-2 in the first game of a Wednesday doubleheader in a Georgia Class AAA playoff series, but lost 9-8 in game two.
In the second game, Columbus took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on two walks, two stolen bases, a wild pitch and a passed ball.
The Tigers cut the lead to 2-1 on and RBI groundout by Corey Kafka in the second inning, and tied the game at 2 on an RBI by Adam Weldon in the third inning.
In the sixth inning, Ringgold scored six runs to take an 8-3 lead. Matthew Crownover had a two-run triple in the inning as the Tigers sent 11 to the plate.
Columbus scored twice in the bottom of the sixth to cut Ringgold's lead to 8-5.
Columbus scored four more runs in the seventh inning to take a 9-8 lead and held Ringgold scoreless in the bottom of the inning to split the doubleheader.
Crownover hit a two-run home run and pitched in the victory in the first game.
Ringgold and Columbus will play a third and deciding game today for the chance to advance to the third round of the state playoffs.
